Mission Raniganj is based on the coal mine in Raniganj where many miners got trapped when water gushed into the mine killing a few even . How a Sikh named Jaswinder Gill managed to rescue them in record time using a first time in India technique is the plot of this completely ignored poorly promoted film.
The story no doubt is interesting by default. Any story based on such intense rescue missions which are basically race against time are always interesting. It's just the way these stories are presented. The first half actually felt pretty average with pretty average camera works (fast forward camera works that amateur directors mostly use). The villagers and miners talking felt like some serial or skit going on. However , as the interval arrives, the film starts to come back to form.
The second half is where things get really interesting and tense where we are shown a timer as Jaswinder races against time to rescue the survivors. This is where we are introduced the new method of rescuing miners from underneath is explained. Also not the water, but another deadly factor forces Jaswinder to speed up everything (watch the film to find it) . Many hurdles also are shown , all these factors make the second half and tense and worthy watch.
The VFX is pretty bad, not even below average. The gushing water has such bad VFX , it literally pricks your eyes like thorns. Clearly no budget was allocated for VFX (a problem with most Indian films).
The miners performance could have been more grounded. Their performance is way too over the top that at one point their shouting and screaming in bihari was getting on my nerves.
Introduction of negative characters just for the sake of making the film more interesting is okay but should have been fleshed out better. The negative characters which include Dibyendu Bhattacharya felt cliched and just added with lazy writing in the film.
As i mentioned before, I am not a fan of the often used fast forward camera work used in the film. It gave the film a lower grade feel. Just a personal opinion, yours could differ, you may like or not bothered with this.
Also, the setting of the disaster was too rushed . A bit of time taken to set up the disaster would have created a greater impact.
While Akshay Kumar and kumud Mishra were in fine form in the film, Pareeniti was an unnecessary addition just there for the money. Talented actors like Rajesh Singh and Dibyendu are wasted .
No songs in between the film is a big plus point and hence these things don't hamper the screenplay . The only thing that hampered the screenplay sometimes in between was Pareeniti calling Akshay in between the tense situations.
Overall, a flawed yet decently engaging film that should actually be watched to know about Jaswinder Gill . It's a shame that this film was not promoted at all and hence suffering at the box office.

In addition to being an entertaining story, the film's focus on rescuing trapped workers sheds light on a crucial but frequently disregarded aspect of the mining business. This shows how difficult it is for people to work in such dangerous environments. The film is made all the more compelling by its portrayal of Jaswant Singh Gill, a mining engineer who was the driving force behind the rescue operation. Akshay Kumar, a talented actor who can convincingly portray a wide range of characters, seems ideal for this role. He has a long track record of acting success, so seeing how he portrays this historical figure should be intriguing....
An amazing rescue story. We need more movies like these. Whilst the world celebrates the Thai cave rescue, we have one in our backyard, which was never unheard of. Excellent direction, excellent portrayal of human emotions and as always Akshay Kumar shines. It also showed an era of India where profiteering trumped human lives and where petty politics considered human life as nothing. And then there is the power of few humans to turn around a story and save human lives. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone. To celebrate humanity and to celebrate the spirit of a few good men. Must watch.
This is one of the rarest gems from the Indian cinema. A real story which is inspiring and courageous in itself and is wonderfully showcased in the film.
The storytelling is so engaging, a totally edge of the seat experience, an absolutely no nonsense film, but not at all boring. One will literally feel like being a part of the film while watching it.
It's about a successful rescue mission of 65 miners trapped in a flooded situation whose plan is made and led by Jaswant Singh Gill, a mining engineer.
The performances, especially by Akshay Kumar is one of his finest, I actually recalled his performance in Kesari; absolutely natural and convincing. The supporting cast was the perfect choice too; Ravi Kishan was a lovely presence a miner; Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Varun Bhadola were all amazing and you will recognise all the actors from here and there.
There are a couple of songs; I really loved the first song; it was a wedding dance number by Akshay; and what a lovely performance; the movie just took off thereon.
It's a must watch film. Watch it to witness the courageous act of a mining engineer who also received the honour for being the Best Life Saver and it's showcased in an utmost sincere, engaging manner.

The movie sticks to the point and you can't miss even a single minute of it. The ensemble cast of actors have done wonderful work. Akshay Kumar shines as Jaswant Gill. The movie is high on emotions and you cry at times. Despite all odds, Mr Gill and his team rescues 65 miners. It shows team effort and leadership. Brilliantly made and researched. Thank you to director Tinu Desai and Akshay Kumar for making every engineer feel proud. Jameel Khan, Ravi Kishan, Kumud Mishra and Pawan Malhotra have done great work. The panic which anyone would go through if stuck in between death and life has been portrayed correctly. The team effort under the leadership of Jaswant Gill is what the world needs. Wow.. Simply Superb.
