Jenna Ortega’s Career So Far: 13 Movies And TV Shows Starring The ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Actress
Image
With the momentum of stardom in her favor after Netflix’s Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Jenna Ortega will surely take on more Hollywood projects following Season 2 of Wednesday, which is currently in production.

Before these two Tim Burton projects, Ortega had roles in several other Netflix films and a television show as well as separate feature films. She got her start in a Colgate toothpaste commercial and then a Disney Channel show that mirrored the aspect of her big family.

Some might recognize Ortega as the actress who portrayed the younger version of Jane Gloriana Villanueva (portrayed by Gina Rodriguez when she’s older) in the CW’s Jane the Virgin. She also appeared in Studio 666 a horror film in which the Foo Fighters move into a storied rock ‘n roll studio that starts to haunt their work. Most recently right before the arrival of Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice in theaters,...

Weekend Box Office: The Conjuring: Last Rites has a franchise-best opening
Image
What a weekend for the Conjuring franchise. Despite everyone saying this was going to be the last installment of the flagship series, Warner Bros. might want to reconsider, as the movie set a franchise-best record (by about $30 million) with a jaw-dropping $83 million opening. To put this into context, even the most optimistic box office forecasters thought the movie would make $50 million (we guessed $40 million), especially after the last film, The Devil Made Me Do It, opened to just $24 million. Of course, that film opened at the height of the pandemic and debuted day-and-date on HBO Max. Still, $83 million is a dazzling number and another huge win for Warner Bros., following Sinners,...

‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ Explodes to $83 Million Opening Weekend, Third Highest Ever for Horror
Image
Warner Bros./New Line’s “The Conjuring: Last Rites” has exploded past all expectations. Not only has the advertised finale to the occult horror saga set a franchise record with a jaw-dropping $83 million opening weekend, it stands as the third-highest opening weekend ever for a horror film.

The only films that top it are also Warner/New Line releases: Andy Muschietti’s “It” duology, which set the genre record with the first installment in 2017 with $123.4 million, followed by “Chapter Two” with $91 million in 2019

Internationally, “Last Rites” stands even higher with a $104 million overseas total, surpassing the $94 million for “It: Chapter Two” as its global launch stands at an incredible $187 million against a reported $55 million budget.

Box Office: ‘Conjuring: Last Rites’ Stuns With Series-Best $83 Million Debut
Image
“The Conjuring: Last Rites” has resurrected the box office, collecting a sensational $83 million in its first weekend of release.

That’s a new opening weekend record for Warner Bros. and New Line’s “Conjuring” universe, supplanting the benchmark held by 2018’s spinoff “The Nun” with $53.8 million. Among other achievements, it’s the best start this year for a horror movie (above May’s “Final Destination: Bloodlines” with $51.6 million) and the third-largest for the genre in box office history.

Heading into the weekend, independent tracking services suggested that “The Conjuring: Last Rites” would debut to $50 million or $60 million. However, pent-up demand to go to the movies (there hasn’t been a new blockbuster in weeks), as well as great word-of-mouth and goodwill toward the franchise, sent the ticket sales into the stratosphere. Reviews were mixed, but that rarely makes a difference for the genre of horror. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga...

Tim Burton's Divisive Hit Movie Surges on Netflix 20 Years Later
Image
A divisive Tim Burton adaptation is surging on streaming two decades after its original release. Burton is a two-time Oscar nominee who is known for creative and frequently macabre works including Beetlejuice, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Edward Scissorhands, and 1999's Sleepy Hollow.

While many Tim Burton movies are original stories, he has helmed a fair number of adaptations as well. This includes 2010's Alice in Wonderland (a Disney live-action remake that grossed more than $1 billion), 2007's Sweeney Todd (an adaptation of the 1979 Stephen Sondheim musical), and an earlier movie that has found new life on streaming.

‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ Summons a Franchise Record $77.5 Million Opening
Image
“The Conjuring: Last Rites” is yet another box office hit for Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema, obliterating the record for the James Wan franchise with an industry estimated $77.5 million opening weekend from 3,302 locations.

This comes after a $34.5 million opening day that includes $8.5 million from Thursday preview screenings. The record for the “Conjuring” franchise, which spans eight previous films going back to 2013, previously belonged to the 2018 spinoff “The Nun” with $53.8 million.

Box office trackers had expected a much stronger opening than the $24.1 million launch of the last mainline installment of the series, “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” which was released day-and-date on HBO Max in 2021. But this...

Beloved 97% Rt Comedy Series Returns As A Movie
Image
A popular comedy series is being made into a movie five years after going off the air. Over the years, there have been a number of series that have either been remade into movies (such as the action titles Charlie's Angels and Mission: Impossible) or received sequels featuring the original cast (such as Andrew Haigh's 2016 drama Looking: The Movie).

There are also a number of comedy movies that are sequels to shows and feature the original cast. This includes 2008's Sex and the City: The Movie (which was followed by a film sequel as well as the sequel series And Just Like That) and the upcoming Community movie.

Film Fests’ New World Order: Why Cannes and Venice Surged as Toronto and Sundance Have Struggled
Image
The last edition of the Toronto Film Festival came and went with a shrug. Movie lovers would be forgiven if they’ve never heard of any of the fest’s high-profile world premieres, such as “Eden,” “Unstoppable,” “Nightbitch” and “Nutcrackers,” despite boasting stars like Jude Law, Sydney Sweeney, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Adams and Ben Stiller.

The unmemorable lineup stood in stark contrast to the glitzy affair over at the Venice Film Festival, which took place a week earlier and unveiled a slew of awards players and box office hits, including the Brazilian drama “I’m Still Here,” Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” and “Babygirl” with Nicole Kidman. Along with the Cannes Film Festival, Venice has soared in popularity and notoriety as their North American counterparts — most notably Toronto and Sundance — have struggled to remain relevant.

As indicators of Cannes’ and Venice’s growing influence after Covid shook up the movie business,...

‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ To Be Blessed With $80M Global Opening – Box Office Preview
Image
Warner Bros. continues its ownership of the post-Labor Day frame with this weekend’s New Line/Safran Company/Atomic Monster supposed finale, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which is eyeing $40M+ domestic and $80M+ worldwide.

The opening here is bound to rep a return to form for the Conjuring franchise at the box office; the previous sequel, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, was a theatrical day-and-date release in post-pandemic 2021 on HBO Max and in theaters, and posted a siphoned opening of $24.1M domestic, finishing with $65.6M stateside and $206M worldwide take.

After a summer that came in even at $3.67 billion in North America, the industry is bracing for a slowdown this month vs. last year, which saw Warner Bros’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice post the second-best start for September at $111M domestic — this after the studio’s all-time opening record was set by Stephen King’s It back in 2017, which bowed to $123.4M.

‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle’ Building Toward $20M+ Opening – Box Office Early Look
Image
Sony Crunchyroll’s anime title Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle hit three week tracking yesterday and the outlook for the Sept. 12 theatrical release stands between a solid $20M-$29M.

The news comes at a time as Sony Pictures Animation/Netflix’s Kpop Demon Hunters Singalong is expected to post a surprise $15M+ opening, potentially unseating New Line’s third weekend of Weapons for No. 1.

Unaided awareness and first choice are strong on Infinity Castle with men under 25. If the pic hits anything north of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train‘s $21.2M opening from 2021, it’s arguably a record start for an anime movie stateside.

We already told you that after tickets went on sale a week ago for Infinity Castle, the top three chains were already reaping around $10M in presales, which in Fandango’s books, is an anime movie advance tickets sales record.

More recently, Burton directed Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which brought back Michael Keaton, as well as Catherine O'Hara and Winona Ryder. The sequel expanded on Betelgeuse's character and Burton's imaginative afterlife, and garnered praise from audiences. Burton also produces Wednesday and serves as director on various episodes.

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson in Conjuring 4: Das letzte Kapitel (2025)
The Conjuring: Last Rites is on pace to summon over $35 million for its early September opening
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson in Conjuring 4: Das letzte Kapitel (2025)
The spooky season usually starts a month early for movies (or even earlier with retail stores already setting up shop for Halloween-themed products…Bah!). So, in September, audiences can get a scare with the forthcoming last entry in the Conjuring series, The Conjuring: Last Rites. Deadline is reporting that early estimates are tracking the spirit-summoning horror sequel to open with over $35 million in its early bird numbers just prior to the weekend. Last year, around this time, Warner Bros. had a bigger tentpole film with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice opening with a huge $111 million domestic weekend.

Warner Bros. has had somewhat of a stranglehold on Labor Day horror films, starting with It: Chapter One raising hell with $123.4 million back in 2017. In the next year, the WB would release The Nun, which still has the biggest opening in The Conjuring universe with $53.8 million.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise the roles of paranormal...

New 'Star Trek' Movies in the Works Following Paramount Merger
Image
Trekkies have every reason to celebrate following last week's merger between Skydance Media and Paramount Global. The $8.4-billion deal resulted in the formation of Paramount, a Skydance Corporation, which, on the surface, might not sound like the most exciting news to fans of creator Gene Roddenberry’s nearly 60-year-old science fiction franchise. However, it’s finally been announced that new J.J. Abrams-produced Star Trek films are in the works, and more importantly, one of the movies will feature Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock along with other fan-favorite characters. Dana Goldberg, who serves as the co-chair of the new leadership structure (Vice Chair of Platforms and Chair of Paramount Television), said (per Deadline):

"Star Trek is a priority across the company."

Yes, James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock will return along with other fan-favorite characters in an upcoming Star Trek movie, which is touted as "another installment" by the report,...

See This British Icon's Dramatic Transformation in New First Look
Image
Bill Nighy is all but unrecognizable in a first look at & Sons. The British acting legend will play a literary lion and total recluse in the new drama, which will also star Imelda Staunton. & Sons is set to make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. No wide release date has yet been announced.

In the new image, Nighy sports a long, unkempt mane and a long beard; he's seen in his cramped, cluttered office where he's spent much of the past two decades. In the film, he plays Andrew Dyer, a legendary novelist who hasn't written a word in twenty years. In those two decades of writer's block, he's had an affair and fathered a son, lost his long-suffering wife (Staunton), become estranged from his two legitimate sons, descended into alcoholism, and generally retreated from the world, becoming a notorious J.D. Salinger-like recluse.

Why Nicolas Cage's Superman Lives Was Canceled
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Anyone who saw the box office disaster of super-heroic proportions that was 2022's "The Flash" will surely remember CGI Nicolas Cage cropping up during Barry Allen's multiversal exploits. Aside from the fact that the CGI rendering left a lot to be desired, this uncanny cameo, in which Cage's Superman faces off against a giant spider, probably struck many as just a tad bizarre, considering it seemed to come out of nowhere. But for those unaware of the doomed "Superman Lives" movie, this ill-advised moment in "The Flash" was actually a nod to a notorious chapter in DC's cinematic history.

Tim Burton restored the image of Batman as a dark vigilante in the public's collective consciousness with his two movies, 1989's "Batman" and 1992's "Batman Returns." After the dark expressionist nightmare that was "Returns" upset a bunch of kids...

Image

On August 8, New Line and Warner Bros. announced (via Variety) that “Final Destination 7” is officially in the works, complete with “Final Destination: Bloodlines” co-writer Lori Evans Taylor on board. Also returning are producers Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, Jon Watts, Dianne McGunigle, and Toby Emmerich. Warren Zide will serve as executive producer.

The news comes as the studio has yet another horror hit on their hands with “Weapons,” the latest from “Barbarian” director Zach Cregger. Image
The audiences have spoken, and they love Freakier Friday, the sequel to 2003’s hit body swap comedy film Freaky Friday, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. Both stars are back for the new movie, which is exceeding expectations at the box office in its debut weekend, after earning solid reviews from critics and an excellent response from audiences. Freakier Friday is directed by Nisha Ganatra, while the original was directed by Mark Waters. The first Freaky Friday was a massive hit, grossing $160 million worldwide against a reported budget of $26 million.

Freakier Friday, on the other hand, cost a reported $40 million to produce. The movie is currently sitting at a “certified fresh” 73% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, and a much higher “verified hot” 94% audience score. According to polling platform CinemaScore, opening day crowds awarded the movie an A grade, which is higher than Freaky Friday’s A- grade.

Beetlejuice Conjures Up a Haunting New Figure From Trick or Treat Studios
Image
Tim Burton returned to the small screen this past week with Wednesday Season 2. However, in terms of the director's gothic list of films, one of the most beloved projects in his macabre backlog is Beetlejuice. The Ghost With the Most, played by Michael Keaton, has been a horror icon since 1988. Even more so since the long-awaited sequel was released last year. Now, as fans wait for a definitive answer on a third film, Beetlejuice returns with a new figure from Trick or Treat Studios.

Trick or Treat's 1:6th scale statue is Beetlejuice in his iconic black-and-white striped suit that was seen in both films. This is just a prototype at the moment which was previously shown off at Toy Fair 2025. However, that said, the likeness to Keaton's ghoulish complexion is definitely there. There's no pre-order information or a release window yet, so Beetlejuice fans are going to...

Brad Pitt Has Quietly Been Responsible For Some Of Netflix's Best Shows
Image
Netflix won the streaming wars long ago and now boasts 300 million subscribers worldwide. But its massive success has come at a cost -- namely, anyone looking to criticize the streaming age (and there is a lot to criticize) will highlight Netflix as one of the chief architects of our current moment, in which we find ourselves surrounded by a homogenous gloop of generic streaming movies and series. To be sure, Netflix has been largely responsible for this state of affairs simply by virtue of being the first and biggest streamer in the game. Still, it's not entirely fair to dismiss the company and its vast catalog of media outright.

For one thing, amid the never-ending waves of "content," the streamer is also delivering some truly great TV shows. Take "Adolescence," for example, which is one of the best Netflix originals ever. This mini-series comprises four episodes that were each shot in one continuous take.

A Toothpaste Commercial: Jenna Ortega’s First Step to Hollywood at Age 9
Image
Jenna Ortega is making waves in the entertainment industry with a plethora of roles. Whether it is her chilling performance in ‘Wednesday‘ or her standout presence in ‘Scream‘, the 22-year-old has already made an unforgettable mark in the industry. However, everyone has to start somewhere, right? Her first acting gig just so happens to be an adorable commercial for the popular toothpaste brand, Colgate.

Back in 2023, Ortega became the youngest host of Saturday Night Live‘s 48th season. During her opening monologue, she revealed, “A lot of people assume I’m dark and twisted because of the roles I play. I’m not like that at all…My first-ever acting role was a Colgate toothpaste commercial when I was 9.”

She shared a clip of the commercial with the audience in which 9-year-old Ortega is seen stepping on a stool to catch some “invisible nasties.” She goes on to teach viewers how to brush their teeth.

From Batman to Beetlejuice: 10 Must‑Watch Tim Burton Movies
Image
If you’ve ever rooted for a brooding guy with scissors for hands or found yourself strangely obsessed with a skeleton falling in love, well, congrats, because you’ve officially entered the wonderfully weird world of Tim Burton.

The man, the myth, the maestro of macabre, Burton has been serving us with his spooky yet sweet cinematic goodness since the 1980s. From creepy Christmas towns to gothic fairytales and even a Batman who low-key looks like he shops at Hot Topic, Burton’s movies have never been your average Hollywood fare. They’re literally whimsical, weird, and wickedly fun. And well, that’s exactly how we love them, ain’t it?

While the 2000s had some Burton misses, he came roaring back in 2024 with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the sequel we didn’t know we still needed. And guess what? He’s not done yet. Burton teased that he’s diving back into animation.

‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ at 40: Tim Burton and More on Paul Reubens, Ditched Sequels, and Creating a Pop Culture Classic
Image
It’s been 40 years since Pee-wee Herman lost his bike, and to be honest, we’re still not over it.

Released in August 1985, “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” not only introduced audiences at large to Paul Reubens’ wild comic creation, it also welcomed us into the heightened world of Tim Burton. Then just an animator with a couple of credits under his belt, Burton was personally picked by Reubens to bring Pee-wee’s living-cartoon aesthetic to life on screen.

Turns out, it was a match made in heaven. Together, they sent viewers on a rip-roaring road trip following Reubens’ grey-suit-and-red-bowtie-loving manchild as he hitchhiked across America to find his beloved stolen bicycle. With Pee-wee’s unpredictability and Burton’s eye for detail, “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” defied expectations and more than tripled its $7million budget. What’s more, it propelled the duo to household-name status.

Four decades on, a lot has changed. Reubens returned for a Burton-less sequel,...

2 Ways Kevin Feige Can Bring Back Jenna Ortega Into MCU After Her Non-speaking Role in Iron Man 3
Image
As Wednesday Season 2 premieres today, fans of Jenna Ortega are celebrating not just the return of Netflix’s goth-iconic teen but also the reigniting of conversations about her early, overlooked role in the MCU. And also, why Kevin Feige should give her a proper comeback.

Before Ortega became a household name for her deadpan brilliance as Wednesday Addams or her scream queen energy in Scream, she made her big-screen debut in Iron Man 3. She played the unnamed daughter of Vice President Rodriguez, a young girl with a prosthetic leg whose condition subtly justified her father’s sinister alliance with Killian’s Extremis project. It was a non-speaking cameo, but its emotional implication left a mark.

Now, with Ortega’s stardom sky-high, the timing is ripe. Fans are asking the obvious: Will Marvel Studios bring her back into the fold, this time, front and center? After all, Marvel has a...

‘Wednesday’ Showrunners Preview Season 2: A Budget Bump, Pithy One-Liners, and Casting a Magician as Thing
Image
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have been writing together ever since they met at USC’s Peter Stark producing program in the early ’90s and sold their first script to New Line Cinema.

After countless movies and TV series, this week they premiere Season 2 of their popular series “Wednesday,” executive-produced by Tim Burton, on Netflix. Having sampled the first four episodes, I can attest that Season 2 is even more delicious than Season 1.

For one thing, for budget reasons, the showrunners had to trim some Season 1 subplots, thus relying more heavily on young star Jenna Ortega, now age 22, in the title role of Addams daughter Wednesday, an amateur supernatural detective in her first year at outsider school Nevermore Academy. This time around, with Netflix loosening the purse strings, the series expands with new characters including eager-to-please Nevermore Principal Dort (Steve Buscemi) and Grandmama Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), while giving more time...

‘Freakier Friday’ Review: Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan Make a Charming Case for the Value of the Legacyquel
Image
You’d be forgiven if your moviegoing interest in the legacyquel — a clever term for a next-gen sequel to a popular, typically very nostalgic film that former IndieWire editor Matt Singer coined over a decade ago — has waned. Again, Singer spotlighted the phenomenon over a decade ago, and franchise-mad Hollywood shows no signs of breaking with the pattern. “Tron: Ares” is fast approaching, and, just last week, Netflix launched “Happy Gilmore 2.” In the past year alone, we’ve had “Karate Kid: Legends,” “Gladiator II,” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” Mileage on these titles very much varies, as does critical response and audience enjoyment.

Leave it to Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan to crack the code as to what makes a good legacyquel, which they’ve done quite handily with their long-gestating “Freaky Friday” sequel, Nisha Ganatra’s charming and quite fun “Freakier Friday.” The secret? Fittingly enough, it harkens back...

Gremlins 3: Gizmo’s Big Screen Comeback?
Chris Columbus

Gremlins 3 is finally inching closer to reality. According to a new report from TheInSneider, original writer Chris Columbus has completed the script for the long‑awaited sequel and is now set to direct, signaling a major step forward for the beloved franchise.

Gremlins 3: Chris Columbus Takes the Helm

This development marks a significant shift in the project’s trajectory. Zach Galligan, the star of the 1984 classic directed by Joe Dante, recently teased that Warner Bros. was waiting for a green light from original producer Steven Spielberg. With Columbus now attached as director, that approval may be the final hurdle before production begins.

Columbus, who penned the original Gremlins, has long stated that the new film will be a direct sequel rather than a reboot. He also promised a “twisted and dark script” that will honor the tone of the original while expanding its universe.

One Of The Best Horror-Comedy Sequel Shows Is Regaining On Streaming Charts
Image
Thriving both theatrically and on the small screen, the 2020s has been the age of horror. The past five years have seen horror succeeding on every front, as each new release draws hordes of viewers. Even as more shows are canceled without warning and more movies struggle at the box office, horror has endured.

M3GAN (2022), Smile (2022), MaXXXine (2024), and Sinners (2025) all managed to find success in theaters, despite lacking the backing of established brands or adaptational material, and they have also endured on streaming platforms. Franchise-backed productions, including Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023), Alien: Romulus (2024), and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) have also seen immense success.

Horror has also succeeded on the TV front, as Stranger Things, The Last of Us, and The Walking Dead have each found considerable success over the past decade. Now, another popular horror-comedy franchise is seeing a resurgence in popularity, and it comes on the tail end of a disappointing failure.

$285M Supernatural Horror Movie Becomes Instant Streaming Hit
Image
Hollywood has been in turmoil since the Covid-19 pandemic first shook theaters, but horror movies have been a rare exception. While studios push to support sequels and adaptations as the only truly financially viable releases, new horror franchises have been thriving in theaters without any hint of faltering.

M3GAN (2022), Smile (2022), and MaXXXine (2024) all proved to be extremely successful releases that impressed critics and audiences alike. Even franchise-focused horror movies have been shockingly viable, as Alien: Romulus (2024), Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024), A Quiet Place Part II (2020), and Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023) proved to be some of the most profitable releases of the post-pandemic era.

As those releases prove, supernatural horror has been an especially compelling angle for Hollywood recently. While streaming has been cutting into theatrical takes, Five Nights at Freddy's released simultaneously on streaming and in theaters and still succeeded. Recently, another supernatural horror also thrived on both release platforms, despite staggering its debuts.

Margot Robbie Eyed to Star in Tim Burton’s ‘Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman’ With LuckyChap in Talks to Produce
Image
Margot Robbie is in early conversations to join Tim Burton’s remake of “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman” for Warner Bros. If a deal closes, Robbie would produce the new film with LuckyChap partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara with an eye to star.

News broke last February that Burton was working on a reimagining of the 1958 science-fiction horror movie, which follows a wealthy heiress who grows into a giant after an alien encounter and exacts revenge on her cheating husband. “The Nightmare Before Christmas” creator planned to direct, as well as produce alongside Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper. Kai Dolbashian serves as executive producer.

“Gone Girl” writer Gillian Flynn penned a first draft of the screenplay, but has since exited the project due to other commitments. The producing team is currently searching for a new writer, and Robbie’s involvement as the lead actor would depend on the final version.

Image
It's hard to believe it's almost been a year since Beetlejuice Beetlejuice took over theaters. The sequel to the hit 1988 horror comedy was well worth the wait and made a ton of money at the box office. The Michael Keaton-starring Tim Burton film was a love letter to the genre's spooky past. Image
Since Beetlejuice Beetlejuice released last fall, it seems like every week fans have been getting a new piece of merchandise to add to their Neitherworld collection. How Original Naked Gun Star Leslie Nielsen Appears In The 2025 Reboot (Kind Of)
Image
This article contains spoilers for "The Naked Gun."

As legacy sequels have been all the rage over the last couple of decades, it's become common for the stars of the original films to turn up in a years (or decades) later installment. In some cases, they return in an even more increased capacity, such as Michael Keaton's titular ghost with the most in "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice." In most, however, the legacy characters are around to help pass the torch to a newer group of heroes. See, for example, "The Force Awakens" and the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, "Tron Legacy," "Creed," "Scream," and so on. Then there's the issue of a legacy sequel wanting to use characters who were played by actors who have since passed on. A few films have problematically delved into digital necromancy in order to achieve the desired effect of characters continuing on despite their actors' deaths,...

‘Gremlins 3’ Script Is Waiting On Steven Spielberg’s Approval; Zach Galligan Says Warner Bros. Is “Incredibly Interested”
Image
Someone call up Star Magic Jackson Jr., because a script for Gremlins 3 is reportedly on Steven Spielberg‘s desk.

While appearing at Comic-Con Manchester last week, Gremlins (1984) and Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) star Zach Galligan gave an update on the long-awaited threequel to the Joe Dante-helmed Christmas creature features.

“After 35 years, they’ve come up with a script,” said Galligan in a TikTok clip. “Warner Bros. is incredibly interested in doing it, apparently it’s waiting on Mr. Spielberg to read it and approve it.”

The actor credited “the success” of last year’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice for getting Warner Bros. onboard for another installment of Gremlins.

Although it’s currently unknown who is writing the followup, Og screenwriter Christopher Columbus told Vanity Fair “that stuff is in my DNA” while reflecting on the film. “We had a lot of things that didn’t make the final script,...
