The South Korean censors told the director and screenwriter that there needed to be a happier ending as it was too gloomy. The director and screenwriter rejected the idea and the movie was banned in South Korea. Many Korean film historians and critics hadn't even known the existence of the film until it was rediscovered and screened at a Lee Man-Hee retrospective in 2005.
