A light-hearted commedy that plays a lot with stereotypes.
The movie takes a lot of time to come to the point. Especially the introduction drags on for quite some time. The audience probably knows a couple of minutes in advance what's going to happen. The three couples and their relationships towards each other are interesting, but especially the young couple has no real connection and no chemistry. They are just there and are not given much space to act.
I had a few real laughs, especially when it came to the French/German/English jokes, but then again it was all too stereotyped-up. I'd wished for some more originality.
Maybe a fitting movie for a boring Sunday evening, not so much as a cinematic experience. It's just too shallow for that.

Found the play to unfair stereotypes deeply patronising and ultimately embarrassing.
This movie's plot follows on this premise that certain nationalities are better than others and then tries to "make peace" with the message the offended nationalities do have redeeming qualities i.e. Hey you're stupid but you make good plumbers. The subtext being "you're still stupid though". Deeply offensive and embarrassing most of all to the intelligent French viewer.
Making fun of hard working people who make one's society and economy work is neither fair nor logical. I would skip this entirely but if for some reason you're forced to watch it, best to turn off your brain beforehand.

French comedies starring Christian Clavier have become a successful formula, repeated ad nauseam. The idea is always the same: a conservative father confronted with the values of a new globalized generation, racially, religiously, and sexually.
The results are generally hilarious, if repetitive. In this specific case, the daughter of a well-to-do family didn't choose a Muslim, African, or Jewish man as her fiancé, but simply a good boy, seemingly of modest origins compared to the ancient nobility her father shamelessly displays.
However, appearances are deceiving, and everything is challenged with a strange offer of a DNA test to each parent, with surprising results.
A comedy that satirizes prejudice, aiming to make it ridiculous and, thus, contribute to inclusion in this globalized world we live in.
While the intentions are good and the film is not without its funny moments, it's all deja vu, without a shred of originality. A film in which the French imitate the Americans. Repeating successful formulas to exhaustion.

This comedy might (well I'm pretty sure) not please the 'woke' generation, you know the ones that get offended by almost everything, but if you have a good sense of humor and are not easily offended by racial stereotypes and clichés you will probably enjoy this French comedy. I like almost every movie with Christian Clavier (from l'équipe du Splendid, a well known bunch of French comedians) so watching Cocorico it was almost a certainty I would like it. Didier Bourdon (better known from Les Inconnus) plays the rival of Christian Clavier and what started as a hopefully new friendship quickly turns into a verbal war between them. Sylvie Testud plays the wife of Didier Bourdon and acts like the queen of England. It's all very funny to follow, you just have to give it some time as the beginning starts slow, but once they get going there is no stopping them. I had a good time watching this French comedy, probably because I'm not woke enough in this ridiculous society that takes everything too seriously. Just relax and enjoy the show.
The movie is very stereotypical and racist. They make fun of the Portuguese people and of course the role is that of maid and plumber, and the French woman is horrified by her Portuguese roots, as well as the Indian and the others. It always follows the same cliché that only the French are good, which tires the viewer and ends up showing that even today France is not very tolerant of the rest of the world.
It uses offense as a method of humor, which is unethical on the part of the director and I don't even understand why it was in theaters for so long. The good thing about the movie is that in the end, love wins and there is marriage. Although the irony of the parents thinking that France is better remains.
