The Anchor - Stimmen aus der Dunkelheit

This movie sucks you in and you're entangled in the web so right you can't breathe! Mothers and Daughters. Fame and jealousy. How does one mothers dream become a generational nightmare? This movie reminds me a lot of Black Swan, with the mother trying to control her daughter, trying to live vicariously through her, although it takes a more fascinating twist. If you are triggered by self-harm you may want to skip this one. But this film is so incredibly well done. The pacing never lets up from the beginning to the end. The acting by the lead is superb, and so powerful. As a mother, we want everything for our daughters. We want them to grow up to be successful and have a better life than we did. But we can't control them without destroying them. It's a fine line between love and suffocation.

An intertwined tale of fractured reflections. Aengkeo misleads, distracts and twist cleverly through out it's entirety. When considered it's theme, countless moving pieces are obvious to be seen but at the same time it seemed like the story deviated from it's planned course. Quite sure the conclusion could have been far better if the nemesis turned out to be a doctor who cuts through a yellow tape and meddled with a crime scene. Apart from the above Aengkeo was armed with exquisite visual effects and fittingly fresh sound effects. Great performances by the cast and fine dialogues. Aengkeo is a good thriller that can be appreciated alot with a bit of patience.

The movie kept me hooked from the beginning to the end. In my opinion, it is a good mixture of mystery, drama, and horror, and it was a bit difficult to guess the plot in the beginning. The twist was done well. The performance of the main characters deserve applauds. It was well-produced with good cinematography, background music, make-up. The story has depth in it as a psychological thriller. It makes sense although the very ending might be a bit hard to understand. But overall, this is one good film to enjoy and I am happy I picked this one to watch.

The subject of hypnosis, split personality, childhood trauma, postpartum depression are shown quite clearly in this film. If you are interested in such subjects, you would enjoy it. As a horror, it is moderate. As a drama, very-well performed.

Just before a news anchor (Se-Ra) begins her late news broadcast, she gets a phone call from a female fan named Mi-So. Mi-So explains she will soon be murdered and she'd like Se-Ra to cover the story of her death. Unable to stop thinking about the request, Se-Ra begins to investigate and becomes lost in a news story and begins experiencing things she can't understand.

This wasn't bad but it wasn't top tier. I thought the actors were okay but it was a bit long. As the film progressed it became more predictable and lost some of its suspense. For me this was a "pass the time" film more than a thrilling watch. Not awful but not great.

Or is it old news? No pun(s) intended of course. And a movie that may keep you guessing - or you may be able to see through it quicker than others. That being said, it really is well told and amazingly acted. For a horror/thriller movie that is. But also generally speaking - hopefully you will be able to enjoy this for what it is. And go on the journey getting the most of it.

South Korean cinema is really something to look out for. Not just for thrillers - but those too. I thought that anchor would mean this would have something to do with ships - but I was quite wrong. It also shows that I really do not read what the movies I am about to watch are about.

Shock moments work and the guessing game was something I did almost until the end. I reckon the conclusion made a lot of sense.
