The young girl develops an obsession for her hot neighbour. BUT IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK.
It should be that. Lesbian lust, but it isn't.
Instead the girl stumbles across the neighbour's secret which she feels she must stop others knowing about.
A rather plodding drama that starts off well, then loses its way midway through. The ending could have been good, but instead we're treated to a rather unrealistic finale.
Only 5/10 from me.
This film's certainly an interesting one, at least conceptually and how it presents certain ideas, but that's about it. Visually, I can appreciate the film but it's really nothing outstanding. Lots of the dialogue feels strange, some characters feel irrelevant to the point that you could take them out and It'd literally be the same story, and some things just detract from the main focus of the film. The acting is fine but not outstanding to me, the main character never really reaches me and does some questionable things but is understandable contextually, and its unique imagery makes it stand out.
Not much great to say that's great about it in my opinion. It's just ok and I think its artistic qualities are what make this movie's concept interesting. Solid hit-or-miss in my opinion with lots of glaring flaws.
This film has lovely dynamics, and deals with the issues of loss and emotional wellbeing in a very poetic and intricate manner that cannot go unappreciated.
I addition to these points, the music is also very well suited.
All in all, this story is very quiet, poetic and special, and if you are someone who appreciates the relationship one can build with a film, then definitely waste no more time and watch this.
Emanuel, a young woman whose mother died in child birth is still haunted by the absence. Longing, hurt inside, she forms a connection with a new next door neighbor named Linda (played by Jessica Biel).
Can't spoil the movie, but Linda and Emanuel are connected by loss.
We need one another, we love one another and sometimes, the bereavement even if we never got to truly know that lost one, is so strong it breaks our hearts, minds, souls, and future. We find ourselves surrounded by water, drowning and watching our love fall deeper and get carried away by the current.
I enjoyed this movie.
Kaya Scodelario carried the movie and Jessica Biel delivered in a believable way.
Written and Directed by Francesca Gregorini, I didn't have any complaints with the script and felt there was a great pace and rhythm to the movie, supported nicely with music.

[first lines]
Emanuel: My name is Emanuel. I'm 17 years old and I killed my mother. I had her sliced open, like a goat for the slaughter, to get me pulled out. As she bled, the doctor pushed air into my lungs and pressed his hands repeatedly onto my chest, with the same rhythmic, repetitive motion that he used to jerk himself off that very morning. It worked. He came and I came. Back to life.
Emanuel: The fact that my mother lost her life for this--for me--is probably just a side note. The cost of doing business. But it's me who pays. It's on my tab. And it accumulates interest with every passing year. My point is, there's no place for me. Because I'm not supposed to be here. Maybe if I was some sort of Olympic athlete, or a genius scientist. But I'm not. I'm not any of those things. I'm just a girl. A murderer without a motive. So I serve my time, waiting for my sentence to be up.
