Haunted Changi

Alright, so Singapore has its own "Blairwitch Project" movie now? "Haunted Changi" is something very similar in concept and the way it is shot. Allegedly a documentary about film makers going to the haunted Changi hospital to make a documentary and they come face to face with the dark presence at the hospital.

Yeah, it all sounds interesting, doesn't it? And as such, I decided to watch the movie. After all, usually a lot of good movies come out of Asia, but this one? Well, not quite that good.

There is a lot of shots showing off the run-down, battered location of the Changi hospital, and that is great. Except that it becomes too much at a point. Enough with showing senseless shows of the ruined place. Yeah, it is run-down, we get it. Had they cut down on these shots, the movie would have been a tad better.

As for shock effects in the movie? Well I didn't get scared once, I didn't even feel any thrills, to be honest. And I was expecting a bit more in the scary corner from this movie. But it failed to deliver. I would go to the length of saying that this is a very uneventful movie. Sure it builds up some suspense here and there, and it put you up for something that could be good, and you want to see what happens next, what will be revealed. But in the end, it was all very anti-climatic.

I am unfamiliar with the people in the movie, but in overall they actually did a good enough job with their roles. Of course, nothing award-winning here, but good enough for a movie of this caliber. Sure was better than "Blairwitch Project". And I totally love the accent they have when speaking English.

For a horror movie, "Haunted Changi" was mighty disappointing and quite far from a horror movie. It was at best a slow thriller, though it failed to thrill actually. If you like Asian horror movies, and Asian ghost movies in particular, stay well clear of this movie, it is just nowhere near others available on the market. If you like these staged documentaries like "Blairwitch Project", then "Haunted Changi" might just be something for you.

Incredibly boring Asian flick that's a real chore to sit through. Nothing remotely interesting here: no exaggeration. Just another pitiful found-in-sewage stinker made by people who need to go back to film school... or visit it for the first time ever.

Or just find a different job. Much better option. It takes talent and brains to create an effective horror film. This is the complete opposite. Nobody who worked on this film has a clue about movies, much less about scares and suspense.

So boring and 100% unscary that I had to press the skip button quite often. If you want to ever be fully bored by a movie, get this crap.

Even the title sucks. Changi? That sounds like a Walt Disney squirrel or something.

Haunted Changi is the first found footage I have seen from Singapore, and the only one that I know of. It is one of the most stylistically filmed found footage movies that I have seen.

A group of documentary filmmakers decide to make a movie about an abandoned hospital that they refer to as "one of the most haunted places in the world." The film a very well made intro to their film using stock footage and exterior shots to establish the history of the hospital, expertly narrated by the host.

Next up is a daytime expedition, taking a lot of footage and pictures, and much of our time, as not much of anything happens for a long while.

A nighttime excursion is then carried out, and this is when the action starts, as they bring a team of ghost hunters with them to try and capture some paranormal activity.

This is all well made and acted with a few good scares, especially near the end, however, this movie could have gained a higher rating from me if it hadn't taken so long to get going, and had delivered a little bit more horror. I still found it a good use of my 77 minutes or so

So, the movie portray itself to be "what's recorded was the crew live footage". True indeed, it was a lump of useless crew live footage. A smart move by the editor added lots of effects to the footage to make redundant sound effects, etc.

The movie itself was in documentary form, but half of the movie, we see meaningless stuffs, the surrounding and even interview with their OWN crew members.

I mean come on, why add a bunch of useless details into the video? Overall, the movie ain't even worth a star. But I award it to the crew member whom visited the haunted place at night.

In conclusion, 1 word: "Bad".

This is a movie about nothing, it tried to scare you with effects editing and sound, but does not work, Seeing countless shots of steps and corridors of the building, in the end it's just boring! without a good scripts and acting.It also tried to be funny at time but it's just awful jokes, it used the usual tricks like dark clouds/moon shot, rains, thunder ,lighting, wobbling trekking camera shots used in a lot of horror films, technically is done well but I did not feel a moment of tension nor frightened, there is nothing to recommend this movie. It's a PITY the location of the old deserted hospital has a great potential. Singapore's movies are not of the high standard of Asian films,like Korean,Japanese, and Chinese.
