One of the shorts against homophobia and this one was on my watch list so I checked it out. It is a nice little short but it works only because of its short runtime. There is not a lot to catch on to here but it works so well in the context of what is going on. Engaging and a nice story to tell
Pauline tells her story about homophobia in the small little village she came from.
This short works for what it is only because of its runtime. There is not a lot of visuels going on here a stationary shot on Pauline is the most we get, but it works in the context since we are reliving her memory with her as if we are hearing her story too. But had it been longer it would quickly had gone boring. The expressions of the character is what sells the story.
Anais Demoustier is giving a great performance here. Her acting is calm but realistic, her face giving just enough emotion as for us to understand her feelings without overdoing it. Her fidgeting of her hands sells it too.
This is a story that is told well because it's not over the top. It is very grounded and shows how small communities homophobia can ruin a life. Not by extreme prejudice but by having the small moments that will make you feel unwelcome forever.
A pretty prejudice and well executed short but noting over the top.
