I love bad movies. Movies filled with cliches and bad writing. When the movies only redeeming quality is that its hilariously bad, im all for it. This had it all. From awful dialog to noticeably uncreative and boring cinematography, this was a blast. Smuk is about a girl who is starting highschool. The school has a tradition, where the seniors get to pick and choose between the freshmen girls, and do with as they please. I was already intrigued when i heard the plot, and oh boy did it not disappoint. Highschool dramas might be the don of good bad movies, and this fits right in. I would 100% recommend this horrible experience to anyone wanting a cheap laugh.
This movie was terrible. Acting extremely bad. Writing even worse. And not very often i say this, but the scoring to Smuk is so awful. Probably in relationship to bad acting as well. But quite a lot of scenes in this movie has very forced character behaviour, and when the music also changes to try to support a sudden unlikely action it becomes terrible. Another super off thing is the casting: a bunch of wierdo actor kids are casted as "the popular" kids in school, seems very unlikely given their unflattering looks. This is obviously copied from american high school movies, but one thing they forgot is that the main girl and guy actually needs to be extremely hot to catch young viewers attention. In this one pretty much whole cast looks like the geeks of the school.
Pros: shows danish culture, eventhough it seems mostly based of news about negative things happening in Gymansium Cons: Everything else. It proves why Netflix will educate youth into being distasteful movie consumers. Can't belive it.

This is far and beyond one of the most cringe worthy, badly written movies I have ever had the displeasure of watching. Dialogue is written and delivered like a Tommy Wiseau movie.
Off-putting and unrealistic portrayals of friendships, relationships and school. Don't get me wrong - the premise of this movie is great, it is just executed in the worst possible way.
Another thing that ticks me off about this piece is how the two female leads roles where swapped at some point in prior to production. They clearly should have portrayed eachother, but whoever responsible failed in making a core decision here once again.

Now I'm no movie maker and this is only my second review so I can't claim to be a good critique either, but I can't recommend watching this movie at all. One of the story lines seems relevant these days; How to behave yourself online, but the rest of this is a complete waste of time. The acting is the worse I have seen in many years in a "serious" movie. I blame both the instructor and the cast themselves. Most are relatively new at this and even though one or two of them showed glimpes of hope in one or two scenes, most of the scenes were horrible when it comes to the acting and the instructional work. You don't act well just because you can produce a tear in the right moment. The lines were delivered with robotics, the reactions to most of the lines were automatic and extremely unreliable. You never doubted any lines to be scripted and felt that the script was just read out loud. It honestly looks as though there were no instructions of the actors inbetween takes, just read your lines perfectly and let's go to the next scene. So why not 1 star? Well, I actually felt the camera work and scenery was fine and the settings in general good. So the quality of the techinical stuff was up to what I would call Netflix level, but not the rest.
No pun intended - being young and in love. But to whom? And how much? And what does it do to your relationships? And to your own self confidence? I do like that the movie is not just about one thing. I understand that some people may have and take issue with that and may feel this is overblown (though I also read that some might have liked to have cut this down to a short movie).
I like the acting, I like the twists. Yes the actors may be a bit too old (in real life) than the roles they are playing. But that is nothing new in the film world (see especially the US movies for that). The movie keeps you on your toes - where will it go next? Or rather you may expect it to concentrate on this particular incident, when it already moves on to something else. That includes a powerful speech. Not on par with Spartacus, but ... goes that route! Yes I am Spartacus too (or the equivalent of it - which I wouldn't post for multiple reasons).
And that is maybe one thing that some people may not like: swearing! But young people do that ... well old people do it too - no pun intended.
