I just realized why Garfield looked odd in the live action movies. Because he was animated, that's why! Here Garfield is able to do things that were limited in the live action, like some cartoonish stuff or alive lasagna from outer space. Garfield was able to be what he is, a cartoon.
"Garfield and Friends" is something I highly recommend. As with most people, I grew up with it and still love it to this day. "The Garfield Show" is good, it is nice to watch and quite entertaining, but in terms of charm and fun it is inferior. It is not quite the Garfield I grew up with. That said, the CGI animation here is very good indeed, with colourful background art and sharp character features. The theme tune is nice as well, and the voice acting was decent. Frank Welker is a brilliant voice actor, and while no Lorenzo Music who owned the character of Garfield, he is good. Oadie is quite adorable, then again I have always loved Oadie. And Jon is appealing enough. There are shortcomings however. One is the writing, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't the dry and witty dialogue that made "Garfield and Friends" so enjoyable. Garfield's asides especially weren't as laugh out loud funny here. Another is Garfield himself, as I've said Welker was fine as his voice, but Garfield isn't quite the same here. He does eat a lot, thank goodness they didn't miss out the fact he loves lasagne, sometimes mischievous and not always that nice to Oadie, but here he isn't lazy enough. Also some of the stories are a little unoriginal and predictable. In conclusion, it is nice, but is it the best Garfield show out there? No, Garfield fans may be disappointed, but those looking for some harmless fun will like it. 6/10 Bethany Cox
I think this is a decent show. I liked watching Garfield & Friends when I was younger but I still like the modern show better; it seems more creative with less bland dialog. I think the voices of the characters are better now and their personalities are more lovable.
This Garfield show is quite cute and most of the episodes have really good plot ideas. You can recognize the personalities of Garfield, Jon, and the other characters from the comic strips, and they don't look too different from their original design. I like the fluid animation but I think the CGI could be done better; maybe with better textures or brighter color? What makes Garfield stand out from other modern cartoons is that it doesn't try too hard to be funny, so that you can focus on the engaging storyline without too many pointless jokes.
Overall, it's a great show for Garfield fans and I think it's especially good for children who like the comics.

This show isn't bad by any means, but it comes no where close to Garfield And Friends, I give this show 5/10 because it isn't bad necessarily, it's obviously different from Garfield And Friends, the Garfield show dives more into that futuristic side with a lot of weird stuff going on like plants growing inside of homes going through the roofs, it's different of course, different isn't always bad, here it's fine enough, but when you watch a few of the episodes you'd think to yourself that the writers were on something that they shouldn't had been on, so weird it is, but bad? I can't say for sure. So both good and bad, find out for yourself.
I really wanted to like this show, seeing as how I'm a huge fan of Garfield, but the animation and storylines just don't do it for me. The characters don't look all that bad, but I've definitely seen better CGI. Garfield is a thousand times cuter in the movie Garfield Gets Real than he is in this program. Oh yeah, by the way, what is up with the size of his feet??? Why are they so gigantic??? I think that looks incredibly dumb. A lot of the episodes are also stupid, even for a kid's show. I can count on my hand the episodes that made me laugh hard. Otherwise, I usually stop watching a majority of them halfway because they're just too dull and/or over the top silly, to the point of being more idiotic than humorous. In one episode an alien lands on earth to recharge his spaceship, comes to Garfield's house, cancels out gravity, so objects start floating around. In another episode, a little boy living in the neighborhood who's a wannabe mad scientist shrinks Garfield. In a third episode, a humongous squid makes its way into the city sewer and sucks Odie in, so Garfield has to save him. Really? What is the targeted age group for this show, preschool? If it is, I could see a child getting bored watching this. Kids are a lot smarter than people give them credit for. I understand The Garfield Show isn't supposed to be educational, but the writers could put in more of an effort to think of creative situations for the characters. There is a funny episode that has a slight problem. Garfield encounters a mouse who's supposed to be a little girl. She's extremely inquisitive - asking questions at a rapid fire speed (I don't know if this was intentional by the writers, but it's like she has high functioning autism and ADHD, because not only did she talk a mile a minute, but she would jump from one topic to another). She gets kidnapped by one of the alley cats, and he gets so annoyed by all of her questions that he tells her to shut up, more than once. I was surprised to hear that kind of language. I've never heard a character say that in a kid's show, and I've watched A LOT of cartoons over the years. My suggestion: if you have children, and you're introducing them to Garfield for the first time, watch Garfield and Friends. The plotlines of the episodes are way better. Plus I wouldn't want kids to think this show represents what Garfield originally looked like.
