This is undoubtedly one of the most exceptional TV shows ever created, deserving more credits and accolades. It perfectly illustrates the horrors of dictatorship and the brutal reign of Rafael Trujillo. Moreover, it exposes the distressing collaboration between Trujillo's regime and the United States in committing egregious crimes. Above all, the creators introduced the tragic narrative of the Mirabal sisters to the world. The quality of this show is truly astounding.
This show entertains, educates, and enlightens. I wish other studios/platforms would follow this example, rather than squandering vast sums on disposable content.
Kudos are due to the brilliant creators of the show, an absolutely outstanding cast that delivers performances deserving of Oscars, the production designers, and all those involved. It's remarkable how Star+ continues to excel. Following their success with "Santa Evita," they've now presented us with another true masterpiece in "El Grito de las Mariposas."

I'm actually shocked this series was given the green light. In todays political and social climate, it's almost scary to think that writers thought it was okay to FULLY whitewash the story of these Latinx women. I mean ... a white Spaniard woman was behind the assassination of Trujillo!? Come on. The Trujillo era was so dark, inhumane and ghastly that we really didn't need the extra plots (The Gypsy show ... really???) to bring the story home. It's also SICKENING that the perejil massacre was a 5 min shot in one episode. Overall, awful series... the filler stories are cringe and offer nothing.
It's a good thing if you can adapt with the characters in episode 1 of a series with 13 episodes, here it is delivered.
The ugly face of dictatorship is not only tranported through the white male midlle-aged characters but also the camera-work choose to differ between oppressor an oppressed, which got me hooked. The time.hooping doesn't affect the dramaturgie of the story, in fact it delivers.
As sad as the times have been, this series achieved to transport hope and a worthwhile resistance against a totalitarian regime plus a humanitarism in situations where manking showed it's evil face. Recommended!
