While the filmmaker doesn’t give away much, he does state that the film will feature darkness. Given that Anderson’s films are known for their sense of whimsy, that in itself is pretty intriguing. Prolific director Guy Ritchie has officially signed on to direct Road House 2, Amazon MGM Studios' followup to the Jake Gyllenhaal-led action hit. Ritchie takes over from Doug Liman, who left the franchise acrimoniously when Amazon sent Road House straight to streaming instead of giving it a theatrical release. It will be Ritchie and Gyllenhaal's third collaboration, following Guy Ritchie's The Covenant and the upcoming In the Grey. The script is by Will Beall (Bad Boys: Ride or Die). Road House is based on the 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze, with Gyllenhaal as an ex-UFC fighter named Dalton who takes a job as a bouncer at a dangerous bar and comes into conflict with a local gang.

Vollrath will direct from a script written by Andrew Ferguson, whose scripts usually land on the Black List, with one titled Blood Rush also in development at Amazon.

MCU and Extraction star Chris Hemsworth continues to carve out his legacy as an action hero as he signs on to lead an action thriller for Amazon that has been described as a “Die Hard on a submarine.” Which, for an elevator pitch, is a pretty solid one.

The Marías have announced they’re returning to the road for a 2025 North American tour in further support of their sophomore album, Submarine.

The 2025 Sarasota Film Festival has announced its winners, and one film in particular will draw attention for having screened to much acclaim in this bright red county, ultimately winning the top documentary prize: Kim A. The nominations were announced Wednesday, a week after the guild postponed its scheduled Jan. 9 announcement due to the Los Angeles wildfires.

As previously reported, dozens of scripts — including several top Oscar hopefuls — were ineligible for consideration this year. A screenplay is ineligible if it’s produced outside of the WGA’s collective bargaining agreement or written by a non-union member.

We’ve got word of the news less than a week ahead of MIPCOM Cannes, where Eccho Rights will be shopping Safe Harbor, the buzzy crime drama from Ozark co-creator Mark Williams. Barth will remain as an exec producer on the show.

Barth has been with Eccho Rights since 2021, having joined after exiting Nent Studios UK (aka Drg), where he was SVP for Emea. Further back, he worked at New Media Vision, acting as an executive producer on international formats adaptations of shows such as NBC procedural Mysteries of Laura.

“Everyone else was interested in re-election,” Kinzinger said in an interview with THR as the Toronto International Film Festival was set to start Thursday. “But when I talked to Steve and the team their interest was in the human element — what’s the cost to you and your future kid?”

That conversation was more than two years ago. Now the resulting film, The Last Republican, could make an impact on more than just Kinzinger when it premieres at TIFF 2024 on Saturday.

It has been a high-profile 12 months for Mediawan Kids & Family thanks to subsidiary Method Animation’s involvement in the Ladybug & Cat Noir franchise, which has been enjoying box office success worldwide with a first feature film adaptation.

The IP, which was first developed as a series in 2015, is now under the umbrella of recently launched entity Miraculous Corp, a joint venture between co-creator Jeremy Zag’s company Zag and Mediawan Kids & Family parent group Mediawan.

This means that Method Animation is no longer involved in the franchise but Mediawan Kids & Family President Julien Borde says his division is busy developing and producing a raft of animated content, he believes has similar franchise potential.

The series was quietly shelved earlier this year, we are told, having launched in September 2023.
