The Italians, written by Lisa Visca, is a charming and witty film that celebrates the chaos, beauty, and unbreakable bonds of Italian-American family life. With sharp dialogue, dynamic characters, and a storyline that balances laugh-out-loud moments with genuine emotional depth, this movie feels both personal and universally relatable.
Visca's writing shines through in every scene-rich with cultural nuance, fast-paced banter, and moments that pull at your heartstrings just when you least expect it. The characters are wonderfully flawed and fully realized, with each family member bringing a unique flavor to the table (pun intended). Whether you grew up in a big Italian family or not, you'll find pieces of your own relatives in these roles.
Visually, the film is vibrant and full of life, with a warm tone that matches its subject matter perfectly. The direction leans into the comedic timing and emotional beats without ever feeling heavy-handed.
If you love films like My Big Fat Greek Wedding or Moonstruck, The Italians will feel like coming home. A love letter to culture, tradition, and the messy but beautiful reality of family-this one's definitely worth the watch.

I loved this movie so much . It was very funny and it reminded me of how my family is when i am at the dinner table . You will laugh and cry but it all comes together very well . The acting was incredible and so was the writing . I really enjoyed how the story unfolded and the little lessons about life that you learn as it goes on . I think now more than ever we need a movie that can bring a smile to our faces and make us laugh. Overall I really feel this is a hit movie that I could watch over and over again . This is a must see movie that the whole family can enjoy ! If I could give it 11 Stars I would !
I really enjoyed it and so did my girlfriend who went with me, we are both African American and I feel that this movie welcomes everyone, it is well directed the cinematography is highly professional from start to finish it keeps you engaged with a great story line All of the main characters did an excellent job in playing their roles, my favorite was the grandma she really played an excellent part her role really in my opinion was very well acted and played and very funny with a natural flow I really don't want to give too much of the movie away by telling too much of the story line but I think the average movie goer would definitely enjoy it two thumbs up for me!
The Italians, written by Lisa Phillips Visca, is chock-full of humor, warmth, and flair! With sharp, witty dialogue and well-drawn characters, the film depicts the everyday humor, love, and occasional tension that come with close-knit families. Visca's skillful writing brings authenticity and warmth to the story, offering relatable moments and subtle life lessons along the way. The cinematography is beautiful, capturing mouthwatering Italian dishes, bustling family dinners and sunny West Los Angeles. The characters are equally vibrant-fun, energetic, and full of personality. It's an enjoyable, thoughtful movie that balances laughs with heart. A perfect and much-needed film for the times! Bravo!
Grew up Italian and the over-bearing mother is def a relatable character. Entertaining and enjoyable movie with a great ensemble cast. Pastor Joe is funny as the "family" priest, Abagail Breslin does a good job at being the odd person out dealing with their potential/future mother-in-law. The family dinner scenes make you want to grab some Italian for dinner tonight and the grandmother has some great comic relief moments. Give it a watch on Prime and enjoy a movie with a different story-line than what you usually see being put out there these days. Makes you appreciate family and realizing how fast someone can be there and gone the next day.
