Bloom

The movie tells a simple story, but the characters are well written. You may like teacher Ye, has an unique soul and determined to live the life she want. You may like Songyu, love passionately and work hard, but will never look back. For me, I was like Muke, I remembered every significant moments and people in my life, kept thinking about it or dreaming about it. Sometimes I wake up, feeling empty and sad, and start to think about that these are just emotions and they are worthless. But the movie headed me to a beautiful sea, where I saw love and happy memories. We may experience thousands of farewells, but the memories will always there, support us to live our long long life.

The film is filled with heartfelt nostalgia, sentimental love story and gorgeous scenes. The beauty comes from the extraordinary scenic spots which have rarely been portrait properly, this film has done their justice! It also comes from the clever mind which composed each frame, they're all so aesthetic pleasing enough to be a poster! Check out this beauty and you'll plan a trip to China.

The cinematography and editing are very impressive, I can feel the gentleness of it. Growth is the accumulation of memory, and there is always a hazy beauty in it. Life is always about reunion and parting, where are we going, who is only acquaintance, and who is the one romance will bloom. Mu Ke did not give an answer, but I admire him, think hard and keep pursuing.

Bloom is a film that takes you away from your same-old told 100 times coming-of-age love story. The visuals in this film are breathtaking. The shot compositions in combination with the breathtaking colors and majestic locations create a feeling of connection with both the scenery and the story. The dreamy state you enter when watching erupts nostalgia. All of which is done on purpose to create this almost memory like aesthetic. This allows you to embrace Mu Ke and walk in his shoes without having to walk with him every step of the way. You don't have to make a love story high-energy to be exciting. Bloom is a beautiful example of the weight conversations we have with ourselves carry when it comes to giving love to someone else.

Bloom is worth your while, especially if you love films from directors like Wong Gar-Wai and Terrence Malick. It's not that often that I come across movies like this anymore that really gets you in the feels. 10/10 recommend!
