Ryan Reynolds' R.I.P.D. Finds New Life as Streaming Hit Despite 13% Rating
Image
Ryan Reynolds has established himself as a leading figure in modern cinema, acclaimed for his sharp comedic timing and his prominence in superhero films. Though his global box office total exceeds $6.5 billion, his career began with modest television appearances, first rising to attention with starring roles in Hillside (1991-1993) and Two Guys and a Girl (1998-2001).

Transitioning into film, Ryan Reynolds headlined several romantic comedies that cemented his popularity, including National Lampoon's Van Wilder (2002), Waiting... (2005), and The Proposal (2009). Not every venture was met with critical or commercial acclaim; his turns in superhero entries like Blade: Trinity (2004) and Green Lantern (2011) fell short, underscoring the uneven path that often accompanies rising stardom.

Reynolds' defining breakthrough came with the Deadpool franchise, beginning in 2016. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 (2018) became cultural phenomena, while Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) delivered his highest-grossing success to date. Beyond superheroes, he's starred in 6 Underground (2019), Free Guy (2021), and The Adam Project (2022). However,...

Morgan Freeman's 1994 Drama Considered One of the Greatest Movies of All Time Is Back on the Streaming Charts
Image
The concept of a movie being a "masterpiece" is often bandied about without much thought, with countless films now given the title of "greatest of all time." However, one film that is often given this crown and likely deserves its universal praise is The Shawshank Redemption, the 1994 critically acclaimed prison drama that holds the record for most Academy Award nominations for a Stephen King adaptation with seven, although it shockingly won none of those. Beloved for its stellar performances from the likes of Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, Frank Darabont's genius script and directing, and much more, the film will always hold a special place in the hearts of millions.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, The Shawshank Redemption is, as of August 12, 2025, one of the ten most-streamed movies on Peacock in the U.S. Joining the list at #9, many more celebrated titles — although none more than Shawshank — are also part of Peacock's streaming top tier.

Ben Stiller's $600 Million 'Madagascar' Sequel Is a Streaming Hit in the U.S.
Image
Excitement is high as one of Ben Stiller's comedies gears up for a long-awaited comeback. Stiller and many more of the original cast are set to join Ariana Grande in the upcoming Meet the Parentssequel, set to be written and directed by franchise veteran John Hamburg. But whilst you wait for the film's release on November 25, 2026, perhaps looking at another of Stiller's comedy sequels is the perfect way to fill the time. That's something fans have been doing, with one of the actor's most successful sequels ever officially joining the upper echelons of the streaming ranks.

As of August 8, 2025, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Peacock in the U.S. The sequel came three years following the huge success of the first movie, which, although failing to please most critics, earned over $500 million at the box officefrom a reported $75 million budget. An Established MCU Director's Sleeper Hit Directorial Debut Is a Streaming Success
Image
Sure, Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania is likely the worst MCU movie release of the entire saga. Starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas, the movie failed to capture much positivity from both the fandom and critics, leaving director Peyton Reed with a disappointing stain on his impressive career. 23 years prior to this release, Reed was making his feature directorial debut with an impressive splash, although his first outing behind the big-screen camera wouldn't find its deserved success straight away.

The movie in question is the cheerleading comedy Bring It On, starring Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku, and Gabrielle Union. A quarter of a century since its debut, this sleeper hit has found streaming success once again, officially topping the Peacock U.S. streaming charts as of August 8, 2025. With a 65% critics' score and a 66% audience rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Bring It On is a cultural phenomenon that...

Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, and Brittany Murphy in Clueless - Was sonst! (1995)
Here Are the Top 10 Most-Watched Movies on Peacock This Week, Including ‘The Phoenician Scheme’
Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, and Brittany Murphy in Clueless - Was sonst! (1995)
Peacock’s latest top-ten lineup is a comfort-food buffet: animated showstoppers, razor-sharp teen comedies, and a thriller or two for good measure. It’s a snapshot of what people actually watch when they want pure fun—familiar characters, generous laughs, and stories that go down easy after a long day.

What makes this mix pop is the range. You can jump from high-energy martial arts hijinks to biting satire without losing the feel-good momentum. Below, we count down from #10 to #1, highlighting why each title has viewers hitting play this week.

10. ‘Clueless’ (1995) Paramount Pictures

‘Clueless’ remains a sparkling time capsule of wit, wardrobe, and well-aimed self-awareness. Its heroine may be gloriously oblivious at first, but the movie’s empathy gives every joke a soft landing.

The appeal endures because the satire never curdles; it invites you in rather than talking down. Rewatches deliver the same fizzy charm—zingers, glow-ups, and a...

‘Bring It On’ & 9 Other Movies Top Peacock’s Most-Watched List This Week
Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, and Brittany Murphy in Clueless - Was sonst! (1995)
Peacock’s weekly chart is a cozy chaos of comfort rewatches, family-friendly favorites, and a couple of curveballs. From animated animal antics to teen comedies that basically defined an era, the lineup shows how well a good laugh (or a well-timed eye roll) still plays at home. It’s also a reminder that a great stunt sequence or a killer one-liner can be just as bingeable as prestige TV.

What’s fun about this mix is how it hops across tones without losing steam: sharp teen satire sits alongside kung fu slapstick, while a cheerleading classic keeps pace with globe-trotting penguins and power-kicking pandas. Below, we count down the week’s most-watched titles from #10 to #1, spotlighting why each one has people pressing play right now.

HBO Max is about to add a former record holder to its streaming library. Kung Fu Panda 2, which used to hold the record for the highest-grossing film from a female director, will join the streaming service at the top of next month.

Beginning Aug. 1, Kung Fu Panda 2 will be available to stream on HBO Max. Sir Gary Oldman: A Knight to Remember
Image
Gary Oldman Is Finally Being Knighted Well it’s about time! There is only one question surrounding this honor. And it certainly has nothing to do with the validity of England’s decision. Rather, it is a question of “What Took So Long?!” Oldman has long stood as a symbol- if not, a standard- of artistic excellence, a master of the craft who consistently disappears into his roles. But for whatever reason, recognition always seems to arrive late. Take his Oscar, for example. He won his first- and still only- Academy Award in 2018 for playing Winston Churchill in 'The Darkest Hour.' But then I came across an interview Oldman did with Deadline’s Baz Bamigboye, where Bamigboye joked about Oldman’s longtime California residence, dubbing him “Sir Gary of Palm Springs.” Oldman once shared on ‘The Graham Norton Show’ that, although he was born and raised in southeast London,...

'Harry Potter' Star, 67, Doesn't Want "Rent-a-Villain" Roles Anymore
Image
When Gary Oldman was a "Gary Young-man," the actor starred in various roles, mainly as a villain. Although the characters were memorable, Oldman revealed in an interview with Variety that he was tired of being typecast despite the fact that these roles were fun to play. Fortunately, he eventually made a shift in his later acting roles, being able to play the hero or someone on the side of good, with the most recent example being as Jackson Lamb in the Apple TV+ series, Slow Horses.

During his appearance in "Does Sir Gary Oldman Know His Lines?" Oldman shared his thoughts about being Hollywood's go-to person to play the villain. Unfortunately, he became tired of being typecast and shifted his career to play other types of characters. But despite his dwindling interest in playing bad guys, he still admits they were fun to play, especially the comic villains in...

America’s Top Animation Schools
Image
Animation remains a thriving corner of the industry for aspiring professional artists even if, as a career, breaking in has never been harder. “There are just not as many entry-level positions at this point when you think about all the work that’s been offshored over the years,” says Jinko Gotoh, an Oscar-nominated producer and vp at Wia, an organization that advocates for gender equity in animation, VFX and gaming. “As the industry shrinks and the demand for content shrinks, those positions shrink.”

Animation is at an inflection point as it continues grappling with the ongoing impacts of such market forces — not to mention the growing presence of AI. Schools and organizations like Wia and Asifa-Hollywood (which produces the Oscars of animation, the Annie Awards) are already addressing this game-changer with additional courses, industry events and multiyear studies. “It’s my responsibility to say to students, ‘Look, that threat will remain and grow,...

The 25 Highest-Grossing Memorial Day Box Office Openings of All Time
Image
Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and the box office is looking up after a grim 2024. Last year, “Mad Max” prequel “Furiosa” scored the lowest No. 1 Memorial Day weekend in nearly three decades, since 1998’s “Casper,” with an estimated $31 million take last year. Conversely, in 2025, Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” is earning a staggering $183 million to set a new box office record, unseating Tom Cruise’s “Top Gun: Maverick.”

For that reason, it feels like a good time to look back at the highest-grossing Memorial Day weekend box office openings of all time, dating back to 1996. Now, it’s important to note these are Memorial Day weekend openings not Memorial Day weekend box office champions – “The Day After Tomorrow” pulled in over $85 million when it opened in 2004, but the top film at the box office for the holiday weekend was holdover “Shrek 2.”

Interestingly enough, the list is chock-full...

Why Michelle Yeoh Rejected A Wai Lin Cameo In The James Bond Movie Die Another Day
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

There are few franchises in the history of cinema that can rival that of "James Bond." Created by author Ian Fleming, the spy known as 007 made himself known to the world thanks to Sean Connery's portrayal in 1962's smash hit "Dr. No." Ever since, even after Connery's tenure ended, Bond has been a staple of the silver screen.

Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh made her mark on the series with her role as Wai Lin in 1997's "Tomorrow Never Dies." Yeoh was the main Bond girl in Pierce Brosnan's second entry as Bond, following in the footsteps of "GoldenEye," which successfully revived the series after a long absence. Yeoh, it turns out, could have returned once more in Brosnan's final "Bond" movie as well, namely 2002's "Die Another Day." So, what happened? Why didn't Yeoh return?

‘A Minecraft Movie’ Hits Half a Billion at International Box Office, Passing Another Jack Black Hit Along the Way
Image
Jared Hess' A Minecraft Movie is the champion of the 2025 box office so far. By a considerable distance, the video game adaptation tops the list of highest-grossing movies of the year and has become somewhat of a cultural touchstone across much of the world, for better or for worse. After recently surpassing Captain America: Civil War at the box office and entering the 75 highest-grossing movies in global history, A Minecraft Movie has hit yet another major milestone, this time from overseas revenue.

Officially, the Jack Black and Jason Momoa-led blockbuster has hit $500 million at the international box office, which, added to the film's $410 million domestic total, gives an overall gross of $910 million from less than six weeks in theaters. This comes following the recent May 13 daily figures, which, in the US alone, saw A Minecraft Movie take home $685,000, a small increase on the previous three weekday figures. This drop...

David Fincher and the genre-bending return of ‘Love, Death + Robots’
Image
“For my money, it's like Love, Death + Robots should be anything. Anything that you can't figure out where else it goes,” legendary filmmaker David Fincher mused about the unconventional, sci-fi/cyberpunk-flavored Netflix (mostly) animated anthology series. It’s as apt a description as any for the ambitious, experimental, and genre-bending project, now launching its fourth season.

“Creativity happens on the fringe,” said Fincher — the director behind boundary-pushing cinematic classics like Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network, Gone Girl, and Zodiac. Speaking on stage at the Love, Death + Robots season premiere at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, he was joined by fellow executive producer Tim Miller (Deadpool) and supervising producer Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 2 & 3). “It always does, and it always takes somebody — it has to be these weird flyers out there — to inform where the industry is going to go. So we're just going to be out there.

Since its debut in 1975, NBC's long-running sketch comedy show has served as the springboard for 11 feature-length films based on some of the show's most popular sketches and characters, which have seen mixed success. Their first foray into film came in 1980 with Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi's The Blues Brothers, which earned over $115 million at the box office against its $27 million budget.

The success of Wayne's World in 1992, starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, encouraged Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michael to produce more film adaptations featuring popular characters. He brought back 1970s characters for Coneheads in 1993, followed by It's Pat, Stuart Saves His Family, A Night at the Roxbury, Superstar, and The Ladies Man. However, most of these movies struggled both critically and commercially,...
