The movie is not about vampires, really, but about how society is confining us in boxes from which we are not allowed to get out. The main character is a social worker, gently and then forcefully pushed to go to counselling because a child in her care committed suicide, while the system did absolutely nothing to help him or help her help him. Everybody around is telling her how she should behave, what she should do, how her own cases are to be solved because "obvious" and so on. There is a scene where she visits a vampire house, one of those weird Goth kids playing fantasy roles and dressing up and she gets a "reality it's all in the mind" to which she replies "not to me, it's not".
That being said, the acting is bad or in the best case wooden, the budget is minimal to non existent and the plot drags on. I liked the idea underneath the bad production, though. It's just that it's only an idea and it never gets anywhere from there. I prefer a bad film with a good idea to a good film with no purpose, though.

I'm not one to bash, but this was utter trash.
Bad acting, bad script, bad framing, bad casting, bad set dressing, you think of it - bad everything. The bar is very low if this writer/director won an award for this. I have a feeling the 7* review was left by the man himself. Only awarded the film one star as I couldn't give zero.
There's a scene with a woman with a pushchair and the baby is actually a doll, my son who was watching commented 'that's the best this budget could stretch to' and he's 10!
Not even sure how or why I came across this film, or how I managed to sit through it all without turning it off.

It's a low budget movie, with limited funding. It could have been great, the story is interesting and a great idea for a descent movie. But the music, wanted me to turn the off button, several times. Not that bad acting, from unknown actors. I have seen it once and that's enough. I wanted the story to go deeper into the "vampire", so many things were left out. The social worker what was her story, why did she do, the things that she did. Some more wardrobe would have been nice, since he got blood over the clothes and magically have clean Grey clothes again. It's so many things left out, I know it's fiction, but anyway.
I watched this at Frightfest UK and was blown away by it. Such a terrific story on a teensy tiny budget. The acting was really good all from first time actors. I think the actor who played the boy did a really good job, but the actor who played Marjorie was brilliant. But the real star was the city of Manchester, which just came to life, so murky and menacing. The vampire had a new origin story also, which you don't see very often. This film was very artistic in the way it showed you the city and felt completely believable. I have never seen a horror film that so perfectly captured modern Britain. Loved this!
So I read the reviews and wanted to add my two cents. This is an extremely low budget film that does more for vampires than any big budget Hollywood film I've seen for decades. It actually makes you think. Nathan is a disturbed young boy in social care who is actually a vampire. But he's not your average everyday vampire. I won't say how because it will ruin the movie. But this is such an original take on vampires. If you're expecting a gory shocker you won't get it. But this is a great drama film with some very good acting. The performances are very understated. So don't expect Hollywood clichés and you will be all right. Oh and the "doll" another reviewer referred to I got to be just that. It was a doll and the woman was obviously deranged. Seriously though, this is a great film, very emotional at the ending. It is the best British film I've seen for ages. I can't wait to watch more by this cast and director!
