I think the title "I Survived an Idiotic Americanized Version of a Japanese Game Show" might be more appropriate. I had high hopes for this show, having recently been enjoying several episodes of one of my favorite game shows of all time, Most Extreme Challenge. Sadly, this is stupid, stupid American television of the lowest order. "Survived" is really a sad joke, because the only thing that is survived is the voting off of your fellow contestants, since the show is just another who-will-get-voted-off-next crapfest just like the hundreds that have been secreting from your TV set for the last ten years or so. The actual stunts and physical challenges, the nonstop fun of a real Japanese game show like MXC, make up maybe 15% of the show, the rest of it being ridiculous bickering among the contestants, who are composed of the most ludicrous American caricatures you can imagine. Britney Spears would fit right in with this cast. It would be nice if the networks didn't insist on broadcasting meaningless and thoughtless sludge and passing it off as American culture. No stars. Avoid.
Normally, I'm not a fan of reality TV shows, but this one I found it fun to watch.
A group of contestants, who have no idea what and where they're going, find themselves headed off to Tokyo, Japan to participate in one of those crazy Japanese game shows and this competition has a flavor of Survivor, or Last Comic Standing, where the contestants compete in teams, doing crazy challenges, Japanese style, where the winning team is rewarded, but the losing team goes through a "punishment" type of thing, once again Japanese style. It can vary, like being rickshaw operators in the streets of Tokyo for example, then the losing team is back in the studio and two will compete head to head in an elimination match, where one will go home. In the end, only one will remain and can say they survived a Japanese game show.
Before I've watched the first episode, I've seen one of these game shows before, where the things they have the contestants do can boarder on insanity, some even dangerous, but can have you laughing to no end.
This is a game show as I mentioned is silly, some can even say moronic. This is a show that is not for everyone. I wouldn't say Emmy material, but if you want to have fun, laugh and have a good time, this is a show to watch.

An uninteresting, probably meant to be exploitive and, in the most negative, negative, bad idea. The result is an uninteresting, negatively exploitive, bad program that is not fun, but just motivates you to quickly press the television control to escape this lousy program.
I want to be on this show. That's how much I love it. I'm willing to risk humiliation. Sure I lived in Japan for a little while, but not in Tokyo and not to do this. The excitement and fun jumps through the screen. And I like the reality show portion of the show. It helps you decide who you should root for; who are the good guys and the bad. And I love the host of the game show, Rome, and the ever goofy Judge Bob. I wish they'd make it a fall show, but I guess I'll have to wait until next summer. Most summer shows aren't worth looking forward to, but this is one of the exceptions. Until then I'll leave you with "hi majide!".
When I first saw advertisements for the first season of I Survived a Japanese Game Show, I thought it looked really stupid. But eventually, it started to grow on me. So I tuned in to the series premiere. My expectations were blown out of the water. This series is a very clever idea. It was the perfect mix of laughter-inducing stunts and reality TV drama. I hope ABC puts this out on DVD sooner or later.
I like the second season, too. Although it isn't as good as the first season. They got rid of Tony Sano, which is too bad, because I thought he was a good host. They also put three games in each episode instead of two, so there's less time for reality TV drama. It has been better, but I still like it.
