Confessions of a Go-Go Girl

(2008) Confessions Of A Go-Go Dancer DRAMA Made-for-TV but is now available for rental which the idea is strictly routine. And anybody expecting any nudity will be very disappointed, because what viewers is getting is the life of a 'go-go girl' who don't work in the same manner as strippers since they only strip to their underwear. Jane McCoy(Chelsea Hobbs) want to become a professional actress instead of becoming what her parents want her to be, which is a lawyer. As a result, it created a rift between her and her parents, motivating her to move out and live with her Go-go dancer girlfriend. While working as a small time worker at a shopping mall, her parents then requested her to pay back the tuition that was put into her lawyer courses. And because her go-go girlfriend is making more than she is as a cashier at a shopping mall selling beauty products, she decides to try it, since her acting teacher instructed her to try things one isn't expected to do. More revelations are expected as some fences are mended. All I can say is that the acting is wooden, particularly Jane's parents, and it may be because the simple-minded dialogue had the same makings for a made-for-TV movie. As a matter of fact, all of the situations are almost unconvincing. The documentaries shown on HBO about all this dancing stuff is more entertaining.

Jane McCoy (Chelsea Hobbs) surprises her upper class parents by abandoning law school plans to go study acting. They cut her off. Her boyfriend Eric Baldwin tries to be supportive. Angela Lucas (Sarah Carter) befriends her who turns out to be a go-go dancer at a club owned by Nick Harvey (Corbin Bernsen). Donna Mercer (Rachel Hunter) is an older dancer and single mom. Jane starts out dancing to pay for head shots and to gain confidence. Angela starts going downhill after her boyfriend steals all of her money. Jane follows her down with drugs and actual stripping.

The actresses are good. There is a lot of sexy dancing for a Lifetime movie but there is no nudity. In fact, any unrealistic aspects of this movie has to be put down to the fact that it is a TV movie. It's not a gritty realistic portrayal of stripping. I doubt the girls could make much money without showing anything in 2008. The emotional journey is fine but it's a little too cliché. This would work better as a gritty indie.

More about the effects of this type of life-style, the title should address self-esteem issues and women.

Overall the story isn't bad, but guaranteed the reality is much starker and does not end with someone going back to acting class or entering law school. Rachel Hunter gives a good cameo, and Chelsea Hobbs is sympathetic as the principle character.

A documentary once interviewed women at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch and they said that they felt valued, that this was a form of therapy. Certainly not for them, but for the people who choose to hire them, its not a glamorous profession.

There really is no glamor in being demeaned. If a girl wants to experiment, she should have a Plan B for her future. The movie is good in that it does not completely glamorize the lifestyle, the one friend who dies while under anesthesia for breast augmentation is a good example.

I Can Not Believe How Great This Movie Is, And They Stayed Extremely On Point Of What The Reality Is Regarding The Lifestyle, Fact/Fictional Usually Start That Way But Then Not Only Lose The Real Reality Usually At The Ending Or Just Within The Entire Movie. I Think I Have Watched This Movie Over a Million Times And Will Continue Too, It Keeps My Mind And Past As Time Goes By With a Refreshed Reality Slap ! Actually I Owe a Big Thank You For That !!

I liked the movie but haven't seen it on Lifetime in a long time. Wish they'd show it once in a while
