This is an exciting and gripping presentation of a decades-old legend. The story-telling and research is compelling, the witnesses are intelligent and convincing. For anyone with a penchant for terrifying campfire mysteries and the allure of the unknown, this documentary will tantalise and make you look over your shoulder more often when hiking alone at night...
I love Australian documentaries. They are always done in a laid back style....non of the over the top nonsense of loud music, drums pounding, over acting, "trying to be cool" type stuff. This was essentially about three big cat researchers, that are trying to prove that Black panthers and Cougars live and thrive in Australia. There have been alledged sightings and photos taken over decades, but never any real scientific proof. The researchers go to the areas of recent sightings, or kills, and examine scats, and the killed animals. It's very clear, from the way the animals have been killed, that it's been done by a big cat, but despite all the evidence, and countless game cameras being put up, the cats remain hidden. I hope they do a follow up to this, once they finally have scientific evidence. This is NOT a short film, as the description says. Allowing for adverts, I would estimate that it's 1 hour long.
If you were excited to see compelling evidence of big cat existence in Australia, you'll be sorely disappointed. The production quality is great... however to say the content is lacking would be an understatement. This film contains no evidence, compelling or otherwise, of big cats in Australia. However, there is volumes of evidence of their own biases and embarrassing lack of understanding. When the DNA results come back from the carcass of a calf, they simply don't believe the results, musing over how a fox could bring down a new born calf... as if calves don't regularly die and end up scavenged. When they originally attended the scene, they confirmed much of the predation on the beast was carrion birds, but after the results in the dna taken from only the neck, they are befuddled as to how a fox could have eaten the entire calf? Despite originally knowing the carcass had been eaten by multiple animals. The absurdity of this documentary and its supposed experts had me speechless and frustrated by the end. I don't recommend wasting your time watching this film... it was a waste of time, money, and resources.
