Jai Ho

Another year, another aam admi focused movie (in 2013 it was Singh Saab). It is difficult to talk about a Salman movie because lately he has been pretty much formulaic. All his movies are essentially Salaman playing himself along with improbable action, and stupid comedy- the audience though has been lapping it up, prompting a whole generation of solid actors go the Sallu way.

Salman plays Jai, essentially a do go-oder, a mathematical genius who can multiply up-to 3*3*3*3, (after that he needs help), an ex army-man with a heart of gold who likes to give bad guys an earful before ending their thankless existence. In today's times, think Somnath Bharti on steroids. Like a good old cowboy he strides around dishing punishments, cracking skulls, breaking bones and occasionally killing anyone who does not adhere to his definition of good, but reserves exceptional ferocity to goons who lays eyes on his family. Jai's eureka is to start a people's movement based on the concept of paying it forward when you do a good deed. But then Salman Khan is anything but aam, and there is very little of a people's movement in Jai Ho. It is a one man mission after all.

Jai takes quite a lot of damage it seems- stabbed, shot, bloodied, beaten black and blue, but then in a matter of seconds he proves that he is Salman Khan after all, when he tears off his shirt, and along with it disappears a knife that was apparently plunged deep in his back. The ludicrity reaches a whole new level when Sunil Shetty rolls in on a tank as Salman's wingman. Towards the end, all that Salman doesn't do is to don the chief minister's cap on his head. But that right belongs to another aam aadmi leader, right?

The dialogs are straight off a b grade TV serial, and the music jarring. Tabu and Danny lend a touch of class to an otherwise special appearance filled proceedings. Either the khans were flush with funds, or appearing in a Sallu movie is a major draw- anyone and everyone of Bollywood, including out of work actors such as Aditya Pancholi, Mohnish Bahl, Nauheed Cyrusi, Vatsal Seth, Ashmit Patel, Varun Badola, Yash Tonk appear in bit roles. Daisy Shah may be a Rani Mukherjee look alike but is the inconsequential sallu heroine. Even though she is in the pink of health (pun intended), and puts and dances as well as any, with zero screen presence, and screechy acting skills, we may have seen the last of her. Nukkad's Khopdi features here too, probably playing Khopdi- the drunk. Talk about stereotypes .

Can one person make a difference? The original plot is based on Mimi Ledger's excellent 2000 flick, Pay it Forward. Released on the eve of Republic Day, Jai Ho had the potential to be inspiring, pity though in the hands of a myopic director, it descends into a standard mas-ala movie with song, dance, cheap comedy and action.

i would keep this review very short and simple .. JAI HO is so bad that that it makes movies like BODYGUARD seem very good.. one of SALMAN's worst movies .. i wonder how its considered a movie even..logic has gone for a complete toss in this movie.. imean just imagine this, an army officer driving an army tank on Mumbairoads(i mean seriously...):D. i cant understand of all the actresses why did he go for DAISY SHAH.. she is such a dumb.. music disappoints big time. much much more was expected.. the one thing good in this movie is that you will get to see many familiar faces on screen after a long span . my suggestion would be to avoid getting tortured in the hall. this one is worth giving a miss..

A court-martialed soldier tries to change society by his "don't-thank- but-help-three-people-formula" which rubs several people on the wrong side and hence faces heat from a highly placed political power.

Jai-Ho cannot be classified in either the "leave your brains out" or "take you brains in" category because the crux is very thoughtful while execution is flickered. What should have a serious movie with lasting impact has turned out into nothing more than a pot-boiler thereby losing the purpose of the plot.

As usual Salman Khan punches, smashes, bashes, bites (yes he indeed does) and above all screams as if he had a lion-casserole for breakfast. With a button popping shirt, funny coloured eye gears he has his fans on nimble feet but not everyone feels that way.

The action sequences are typical Salman. Every raging goonda falls like a domino in front of him and not even one has audacity to carry a gun much less use it. The bad guys are not the only weakling but also the doors and walls. Salman in most scenes breaks the door instead of opening it. After 130 minutes of fasting the shirt finally comes off.

But the film has its moments. The chain of events that Jai (Salman) starts comes around a full circle and ultimately saves his own life. Just when we were able to appreciate the beauty of it, an army tank comes in the middle of traffic cutting off the hero from the bad guys to save his life. This is what I mentioned earlier about take or leave your brains.

Daisy shah is a brilliant dancer not so much a scope for acting (What else to expect in an action movie). Tabu charms the screen with her silent-yet-deep presence. Songs are a letdown and in the flow of the movie they are misplaced and mistimed. The movie would have been better off without it.

There are umpteen logical flaws but by this time you would have pasted a critic label on my forehead and hence I will leave it your better judgement if whether, they are or not logical flaws.

Good theme but not so good of an execution.

A man stands up against political grandstanding and corruption after the collateral damages of a maligned system disturbs him to core.

Made for big theater viewing, out and out entertainment and this one, a better deal, concept of the decade

India needed to see the corrupt politicians beaten up. And some one had to show the collateral damage of our corrupt system and no one better than the greatest star of Indian film

The miracle named Salman Prevails! There were some technical glitch, in particular handling a troop of good actors and even managing the peripheral actors, Sohail Khan totally fails as a director.

And the concept of the decade, a very clean and clear message. Salman Rocks. Full-time entertainment, brilliant action sequences. The Thana Fight was absolute goosebumps.

Daisy Shah is made for the stage. Promising, but has a long way to go though. Sana Khan was given a deserving vamp's role ;).

The script was prepared well but managed badly, the director perhaps has no understanding of where to say cut and where to demand a better shot from his actors. Saved by a troop of Stalwarts and the "Ultimate Mega Star"

3 things which were total let down, the first 15 minutes better than Chennai Express but better director could have done better, the tank to the hospital, the fluctuating emotions

Salman Rocks! Jai Ho!

Jai Ho is a remake of 2006 telugu film Stalin.Salman returns to the screen after 13 months,longest gap between his two films ever in his career.So expectations were sky high from this film.Also the film is based on a social issue,which is one of the concerns of todays people in India.So does it live up to its expectations,lets find out: Direction and Cinematography:Sohail Khan did'nt changed much from the telugu film Stalin(i have also watched that),which reduced his workload.But still he does an OK job with Jai Ho and you never loose your grip from the film apart from few here and there moments.Jai Ho is shot in mumbai,and the locations used are good.The camera work is good.The production design is not at par with films like Ek Tha Tiger and Dhoom 3 but is also not bad.

Performances:Salman Khan does'nt performs Jai Agnihotri,he lives his character on the screen.He is just brilliant in the action scenes.tabbu supports Salman well.She is very good.Other actors like Yash Tonk and Ashmit Patel supports him as well.Pulkit Samrat (the fukrey star) is good as a cop.Daisy Shah does'nt looks pretty but dances well,she does an OK job.Danny is good as villain.Sana Khan is OK as spoiled girl,Mahesh Manjrekar is also good.Haroon Qazi (Danny's son in the film) looks muscular and gives good screen presence.

Music:Music of Jai Ho is pretty average.Sajid Wajid are not able to repeat their work of Dabangg and Dabangg 2.Baaki sab first class and Photocopy are catchy,while Tumko to aana hi tha is the best in the album.

POSITIVES:The biggest plus point of Jai Ho is its action sequences which are well build up and Salman excels in those.He also roars and bites like a tiger which is a fresh concept i think.Some comedy is also there in the film which will be liked by the audience for sure.The kid Naman is excellent in his role.The simplistic and noble storyline will be very much liked and some small instances of social work will be liked.

NEGATIVES:The noble storyline will be liked no doubt but can also be hated because it will not provide that much entertainment which you are used to see in films like Wanted and Dabangg.Also Daisy Shah's introduction dance sequence is total waste off.Music may not be liked by many.

So on the whole Jai Ho is a typical salman film mixed with some social elements. My rating:6/10
