The Oder

I would say that the first 15 minutes or so are really good, strongly entertaining its audience with laughs as well as scares. The next 20 minutes the movie takes a step down, but still owns the feel and charm of the first 15 minutes. And then the last 30 minutes it looses its charm, comedy and horror that the other half had. I almost never do spoiler reviews here on iMDB, so I won't go into details, but maybe I'll do a later review or update this one.

The Oder is pretty similar to the IT mini-series. The first half is great but the second half is rarely watchable. The things The Oder does good is amazing but all of the mistakes here is hard to sit through. I'll give it a 6/10, I actually like this movie more than "The Last Guest" and I think that it deserves a bigger audience than it has.

For this review I am going to break it down into 5 sections: storyline, originality, characters, immersion, execution.

Storyline: The storyline for The Oder is a good concept on paper and greatly executed in the first half, but gets pretty boring and filler in the second half. The first half greatly executes the suspense and mystery whilst the second half is a boring and filler collection of scenes with all the suspense and mystery sucked out. 6/10

Originality: The Oder is a very original concept. It mixes a suspenseful mystery perfectly with its own original ideas. In the first half at least. 9/10

Characters: The characters are alright at best, and mediocre at worst. They do not really develop throughout the movie but are serviceable enough. 6/10

Immersion: The movie is immersive in the first half with its suspense and mystery. You can genuinely relate to the characters in the situations. But in the second half, it is nearly the exact opposite of immersive with the filler, boring scenes and all the suspense and mystery sucked out. 6/10

Execution: The first half is greatly executed with the suspense and mystery but the second half is a dull, boring watch. 6/10

Conclusion: The Oder is mostly 50/50 but there is definitely more good than bad.

Overall Score: 6.6/10 Grade: C
