A House of Dynamite is a Kathryn Bigelow-directed Netflix film, coming to the streamer on October 24, 2025. The film is poised to be an explosive (literally) action thriller. It will also be Bigelow’s first film for the streamer since Aurora was scrapped.

When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.

Tony Roberts, the actor who collaborated with such filmmakers as Woody Allen and Sidney Lumet, has died. He was 85.

The Broadway actor’s daughter and sole survivor Nicole Barley confirmed Roberts death to The New York Times after he died on Friday at his Manhattan home following complications with lung cancer.

In Play It Again, Sam (1972), Annie Hall (1977), Stardust Memories (1980) and Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), Roberts was known for playing Allen’s nonchalant friend, balancing the auteur and star’s anxious onscreen presence.

The actor also appeared in Lumet’s Serpico (1973) and Just Tell Me What You Want (1980).

Roberts’ other film credits include Star Spangled Girl (1971), The Taking of Pelham 123 (1974) and Amityville 3-D (1983), as well as episodes of shows like The Love Boat, Trapper John, M.D., Matlock, The Carol Burnett Show, All My Children and Law & Order.

Revenge is a dish best served cold in "Man on Fire," Tony Scott's excellent, violent thriller from 2004. The film is currently streaming on Netflix overseas, where audiences are seemingly keen to tune into the adventures of Denzel Washington's John W. Creasy. Creasy, we learn, is a damaged, miserable, unshaven former CIA agent and mercenary turned bodyguard. If that sounds like a demotion, it is — Creasy has a drinking problem that's pretty much destroyed his career. Now he can only find work guarding other people. He's also perpetually miserable and grumpy, unwilling to get close to anyone for any reason. His only friend is an old friend played with weird gusto by Christopher Walken.

1) It’s a Ridley Scott joint

Scott might have ceded the director’s chair for Blade Runner 2049 to Denis Villeneuve, but rather than delegate the Gladiator sequel, he’s kept it for himself. Production is set to get underway when he finishes his quiet, intimate drama (read: massive battle-tastic historical epic) Napoleon, which is currently in post-production.

Over 15 years after previously working together, Denzel Washington and Ridley Scott are reportedly eyeing a reunion in Gladiator 2. Scott is finally getting back at the helm for the follow-up to his Best Picture-winning historical epic, something he has been developing for the better part of 20 years, largely struggling to find a story to bring back Russell Crowe's Maximus to life following his death in the original. Crowe will not be returning for Gladiator 2, with Normal People's Paul Mescal leading the cast.

Deadline has brought word that Washington is reportedly in final negotiations to reunite with Scott for Gladiator 2. The Oscar winner's role is being kept under wraps, though it would mark the first pairing of the director and star since 2007's American Gangster, which also starred original Gladiator actor Russell Crowe. However, it's currently expected that Crowe won't be returning for the historical epic sequel.

Denzel Washington is in final negotiations to join Ridley Scott’s upcoming “Gladiator” sequel, reteaming after 2007’s “American Gangster.”

If the deal closes, the two-time Academy Award winner would join newly minted Oscar nominees Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan, whose participation in the Paramount Pictures film broke Thursday.

Paramount has dated the film for November 22, 2024.

David Scarpa is penning the script for the sequel, which Scott will direct and produce with Michael Pruss via Scott Free, as well as Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher via Red Wagon Entertainment. Executive producers are Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. Also returning from the original film are cinematographer John Mathieson, production designer Arthur Max and costume designer Janty Yates.

It’s last call for a number of excellent Comedy Central series as well as a handful of genuinely great films on HBO Max this month.

On Oct. 31, the Comedy Central shows “Key and Peele,” “Nathan for You,” “Inside Amy Schumer,” “Reno 911!” and “Chappelle’s Show” (the first two seasons) will depart HBO Max, likely heading to Paramount+ at some point in November.

Also leaving HBO Max this month is the Halsey music film “If I Can’t Have Love I Want Power,” as well as the surprisingly great horror prequel “Annabelle: Creation.” Other noteworthy depatures include “Capote,” “High Fidelity,” “Jerry Maguire,” “McCabe and Mrs. Miller,” the 1994 version of “Little Women” and the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” movies.

Exclusive: Asante Blackk (When They See Us) and Luis Guzmán (Traffic) have been tapped as the leads for Aristotle Torres’ feature directorial debut Story Ave, for FirstGen Content and Jamie Foxx’s Foxxhole Productions. The film, which has wrapped production in New York, will also star Alex Hibbert (Moonlight), Melvin Gregg (Nine Perfect Strangers), Cassandra Freeman (Monsters and Men) and Coral Peña (For All Mankind).

Based on Torres’ 2018 short of the same name — which was, in turn, based on his life — Story Ave follows a teenage graffiti artist (Blackk) who, after running away from home, holds up an unsuspecting Mta worker (Guzmán) in a robbery gone right that changes their lives forever.

This June on HBO and HBO Max will play host to a new season of “Westworld,” a new adaptation of “Father of the Bride” and much more.

The big new Warner Bros. release on HBO and HBO Max this month is “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” which actually debuted on the HBO Max streaming service on May 30. The third film in the Wizarding World prequel franchise first hit theaters in April, and is now available to stream in 4K.

There’s also the updated version of “Father of the Bride” premiering on June 16, while a pair of noteworthy documentaries are coming on the early side this month: “The Janes” premieres June 8 and follows unlikely outlaws in pre-Roe v. Wade America who defied state legislation that banned abortion, while “Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain” debuts on June 9.

Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.

Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

I figured I should probably watch 1986’s Top Gun before my press screening of its impending sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. Often it’s the case with classic films — I use the phrase loosely here — I’ve not seen that I’m embarrassed to admit that. I can’t say that’s true here, but I am mystified as to how I’ve managed to avoid this movie for almost 40 years. I’m not sure how I missed it when it was new. I mean! Summer of ’86, when this was released, I was 17 years old, and I was going to the movies a lot. It was the season of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Manhattan Project, Aliens, The Fly, and Stand by Me. All was geeky GenX glory. Maybe there were just too many movies. Strange to think that could be it, when there are so many more vying for our attention now.

It is described as a supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Ramón Rodríguez has been cast in a lead role opposite Aubrey Plaza in the Hulu drama pilot “Olga Dies Dreaming,” Variety has learned.

The show is based on the yet-to-be-released novel of the same name by Xóchitl Gonzalez. It was ordered to pilot at the streamer back in April. It tells the story of a Nuyorican brother(Rodríguez) and sister (Plaza) from a gentrifying Sunset Park, Brooklyn, reckoning with the absent, politically radical mother and their glittering careers among New York City’s elite in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

Rodríguez’s character is named Prieto. He is Olga’s brother and a popular Congressman who is described as wearing his Puerto Rican pride like a badge of honor. Tony Scott was no stranger to remakes, having provided his take on 1974 classic The Taking of Pelham 123, and even considered updates on The Warriors and The Wild Bunch before he sadly took his own life in 2012. Now, with a sequel to his mega-hit Top Gun arriving later this year, his debut film The Hunger is also being revisited in the form of a remake.

Deadline reports that Angela Robinson (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women) will direct the project while Jessica Sharzer will be scripting. The 1983 original, led by Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie, and Susan Sarandon (with a brief appearance by Willem Dafoe in one of his very first roles) follows a love triangle between a couple that happens to be vampires and a doctor who is dedicated to sleep and aging research.

Six months after the unexpected death of Chadwick Boseman, the “Black Panther” actor has won multiple critics awards, a Golden Globe nomination and emerged as a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination for his great final performance as a sly, cocky trumpeter in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Audiences have been able to watch the film, co-starring Viola Davis in a ferocious performance as the title character, now available to stream on Netflix.

But the role was especially memorable for the first pair of eyes that actually viewed it.

Cinematographer Tobias Schliessler was on the Pittsburgh set during director George C. Wolfe’s 30-day shoot in the summer of 2019. In the film, coming to Netflix on Dec. 18, he plays an ambitious jazz trumpeter, Levee, butting heads with Viola Davis’ titular blues singer in 1920s Chicago. Asked about his favorite shot from the film during EnergaCamerimage Film Festival’s online seminar, the film’s Dp Tobias Schliessler chose one featuring Boseman.

“One of the moments I will never forget was when Chadwick had this incredible emotional scene, talking about his mother getting raped,” he said. “I was looking at the monitors and I wanted to get just a little bit more light in his eyes, to show all the emotions. My operator was tightening in on him and everything just fell into place. It was an incredible experience, watching this actor.”
