Even though i acted here i am not happy with this production. Taking millions from government departments and lavishly spending to over hype this ridiculous production. Was a nightmare to work on. Deva behaviour on set was just disappointing and ridiculous. You may think you are celebrities but there is a limit on how you conduct yourself to the extras. No creativity at all.
People calling it stereotypical are wrong. I'm a mid 30s Indian born and raised out of India, and live in a multi-generational family and this movie made me laugh out loud at many moments and cry out of sentiment. The themes in this movie absolutely reflect the Indian cultural themes of my life and it's a heartwarming, relatable and realistic movie with a solid message. Hilarious and well-made and special hats off to Shanthi, an excellent depiction of a loving yet overbearing Indian mother 😊
A good change to see something from South Africa, instead of the usual USA or UK NRI stories. Though I have not watched the first movie "Keeping up with the Kandaswamys", and saw this sequel "Kandasamys: The Wedding" directly, it did not make much of a difference. It's a fun movie throughout, focusing on the ego wars of the would be mother-in-laws in a lighter way of course.
Kandasamys: The Wedding is aided with decent Screenplay & cinematography, other than that there isn't much to write about. People who are over 40 will enjoy the humour & characters in the movie. Runtime of 94 minutes is an added plus. Background score was bad but songs were good. Acting was very rudimentary.
I wouldn't recommend this movie to people under 35, as they may find it lame. A good watch for anyone over 40, as they can relate more to the jokes and the lighter elements in the movie. Though the story is age old, it is nice to see it in a South African backdrop. A good way to spend 90 minutes but don't expect too much other that a few jokes.

This movie literally is stupid with no sense stereotyping the Indian culture. Shame
My partner and I chose this almost at random from Netflix, and we were delighted with it. We both like comedies with an Indian flavour, and this one didn't disappoint. Neither of us knew much about Indians in South Africa, other than Gandhi having started his political career there, and his building the philosophies which he would use to such world-changing effect in India. But the film has great humour, and a large heart. We loved the continual bickering of the two mothers, Shanthi and Jennifer, and of the corresponding gentleness of the husbands Preggie and Elvis, who act as a sort of foil to their wives. Mishqah Parthiephal is amazingly beautiful, and does a very good job of the bride-to-be Jodi, alternating between great joy in her husband-to-be Prishen, and fury at the way his mother always seems to get in the way at the worst possible moment.
There is a nice echo of the omnipresent mother in Elvis's own relationship with his mother Aya, who lives with them. Mariam Bassa plays the aged Aya to perfection, and has some terrific lines. I didn't fully understand (until at the end) the reason for her stealing money from her son to pay off another elderly person; I thought that this was one strand in the film which added nothing and could have been removed.
Another strand was the apparent love (although no words were spoken) between two members of the extended families, the man of which had this amazingly idiotic grin whenever he saw the woman of his dreams. I loved this.
The film ends with a paean to mothers in general, which would in any other circumstance be unbearably cheesy, but here seems to fit nicely the general tenor of the film. As I say, it's a film with great heart, plenty of humour, and it's a lot of fun.
My partner would give it 6.5 stars, feeling that the lead actress could have used more humour in her role. And I agree, but I can't seem to give half star ratings!
