A love story, like many others. And the sparkle of a nnew perspective, giving, like good spice, taste, color, seduction. A couple and their life defined by commercials. A sad second part. And the source of hope. All is real charming in the case of this short drama, from the wise manner to define the relations, to romance and work duties and happiness and need of fundamental change of life. Result - more a interesting support for reflection. The humor is one of basic tools for define a so easy, at the first sigh, philosophy of life.
Adman is the story of a man who falls in love and starts a life with someone, but it is told in the form of short "tv-spots" or commercials. It sounds like a total gimmick but yet it works well, and the film has its cake and eats it in the way that it uses the content. What I mean by this is that the type of advert parodied here do tend to try to create a sense of emotion or investment out of nothing more than oft focus, easy characters, emotive music and so on. The film does the same, but it does it wanting that result and not looking to use it to sell you anything.
Although the approach and the resultant fragmenting of the story does limit how emotionally impacting it can be, but yet it manages to work on this level because the cleverness of the film pulls you in, even if the story and characters don't totally do that. Well worth a look due to how well it uses the gimmick, but becomes more than that.

An entire love story, told brilliantly in 30-second commercials. Compared to the full-length films I've seen lately, this one made me laugh more, cringe more (the first half of the Point Anchor commercial), and cry more than any I've seen lately. I will be first in line to see anything that Ben Callner creates in the future.
