I have heard great things about the British original version of "Life on Mars", so I decided to give it a look. If the rest of the show lives up to the first episode, then it should be a great show! This was perhaps the most gripping, original first episode of a series that I have ever watched. The musical score was perfect, the clothes were authentic and not overdone, and the dialogue was spot on. John Simm was convincing in the lead role as DCI Sam Tyler. Liz White was a treat as Annie Cartwright. Since I have yet to watch the rest of the series, and will be binge watching it over the next few days, I am eager to see how it all plays out.
Sam Tyler is hit by a car in 2006, when he wakes up it's 1973, he has no idea what he's doing there, all he knows is that he doesn't belong there.
I had the same chills watching this as I did when it was first transmitted, I haven't watched this series since it first went out, I didn't think it would age well, how wrong I was.
The story is incredible, it's surreal, fun, zany, unique, it's like nothing else, most of all, it's a mystery, one that has never fully been explained, but one day may well be.
John Simm's acting is quite literally off the scale, matched of course by the magical Philip Glenister.
Fantastic start, loved it, 9/10.

This is about as nostalgic as it gets.. But the creepy kind of nostalgia like Weebles and Jamie and the Magic Torch...
There's an undercurrent of malevolence that runs just below the surface, threatening to break out at every moment This, pared with the lonliness of his plight makes for edgy, compulsive viewing. Possibly the best start to a series I've ever seen... Hooked from the first bars of David Bowie and him standing by his car's window.
What an absolute corker of an opener.

Managing to both doth the cap to 70's cop shows of old while also being modern enough to bring in today's audiences this first episode of 'Life on Mars' has an awful lot to do, and manages to do it all effortlessly.
We really feel for Sam Tyler and his plight, while also completely loving Gene Hunt, despite the fact he's a homophobic lout, and a lot of this is down to the portrayals given by the actors.
A good show and a great start.

- WissenswertesPhilip Glenister ad-libbed the "Good kids line". He later revealed that he got the line from a road safety advert starring Alvin Stardust.
- PatzerWhen Sam opens the wallet containing his police warrant Card and badge, the printed badge to the bottom of the warrant card clearly and correctly reads "North West District Police" around the centre. However the meta badge to the right is of Greater London's Metropolitan Police.
- Alternative VersionenMuch of the music originally featured in this episode was changed for the DVD release. "Stairway to the Stars" by Blue Oyster Cult was replaced with "Feel Too Good" by the Move. "I'm So Free" by Lou Reed was replaced with "Is There Something" by Roxy Music.
