Babysitter Aunt Clara

Samantha has Aunt Clara as a guest and finds she makes a good babysitter for the neighbors' kids.

One of Season 1's best and a very good one for Aunt Clara. Reta Shaw makes a quick appearance as a elder witch who wants Sam to look after Aunt Clara. Aunt Clara is at her bumbling best at the beginning. She later babysits and the children are charmed by magic and she also admits to them she is a witch. One snooty mother reports her and a judge has a hearing on Aunt Clara's competence. There is a surprising poignant scene she has in the judge's chambers. It is nice to see Darrin show his affection for her, the only relative of Sam's he seems to like.

During the hearing, Clara is asked if she has a surname. She says, "You can just call me Aunt Clara." It was a common thread among almost all of the witches and warlocks who appear on the show to be called by first names only. Endora once told Darrin he wouldn't be able to pronounce her last name, and it was never mentioned again. Samantha only used Stevens as a last name, with no reference to a maiden name. A notable exception is Dr. Bombay, but it is uncertain whether 'Bombay' is his first or last name.
