Fungicide is about a mad scientist who goes on a forced vacation and finds himself at a bed and breakfast. On the way in he trips and drops a vile of a potion that he has been working on. The liquid spills through the cracks of the porch and dribbles onto the Mushrooms underneath. naturally the mushrooms start to mutate into Killer mushrooms.
Shot on a seriously low budget and with actors that are obviously armatures. This really is a very silly film. The mushrooms range from CGI to people dressed as mushrooms (full size) along with hand puppet mushrooms.
There is some gore on display, but some of the effects are weird, to say the least. In one attack sequence the victim looks like one of those masks you used to make at school, by blowing up a balloon and then sticking paper masc-he over it until it drys, bursting the balloon, leaving you with a mask the shape of a balloon. Yes it looks that fake!!!!
Lots of CGI is used for moving mushrooms, blood splatter's and gunshots. None of it that good, but there was an element of cheesy fun because of the CGI.
Overall I would say that the film does not take itself too seriously and there is some degree of entertainment value. Supposed to be a horror comedy, but I did not find this funny in any way. For me it was let down by the poor sound quality, which meant there was many times I could not hear the lines the actors were speaking.

I'd never heard of this movie before browsing through the RiffTrax catalog. I was in the mood for a cheesy, no-budget monster movie and this was PERFECT. I can see myself enjoying it even without the riffs.
Yes, Fungicide is a terrible movie, but it's the fun kind of terrible. You can tell the folks behind this movie were having an absolute blast and they even had a hilarious blooper reel during the end credits.
If you like silly, so-bad-it's-good movies (and are tired of watching The Room and Birdemic), I highly recommend you give this one a watch.

FUNGICIDE is an ultra-low-budget film (aka: home movie) about Silas, a mad scientist who lives with his parents. When Silas goes to stay at an inn (aka: someone's house), he spills a test tube full of his secret formula on the ground.
Chaos and death ensue when the serum is absorbed by some mushrooms. Silas and the other guests are besieged by the ferocious fungi. One by one the humans are mercilessly slaughtered by the terrible toadstools!
If you can withstand subzero production values, heinous "acting", and ridiculous monsters, then this might be survivable. It's semi-humorous and the characters, while imbecilic, are somewhat endearing.
However, You might want to imbibe heavily before viewing.
Some of the mushroom monster vs. Human fights are truly hysterical! It's when the CGI shrooms show up that things really take a nosedive...

Hahahahah... this one is a classic, right up there with "Barn of the Blood Llamas." If you're looking for realistic special effects, solid acting, and a tightly-strung story centering around an ingenious plot full of twists and intrigue, then get something else. If you're up for spending some time laughing at people dressed up in sheets pretending to be man-eating giant mushrooms, though, this is the best movie you're likely to find. Seriously, very little in this flick makes sense, and it's not supposed to. Still, IMDb requires that I write 10 lines of comment, so I'm still writing even though I don't have much more to say. I mean, how much can you really say about this obscure z-grade, ultra-low budget flick, other than it doesn't take itself too seriously and nobody else should, either.
Errr... is that ten lines yet?
Let's go kick some fung-ass, indeed!

I will never again eat mushrooms after seeing this film! Another fun, entertaining, humorous horror film from Dave Wascavage tells the story of how a mad scientist (are there any other kind?) creates a concoction that turns ordinary mushrooms into intelligent killing machines at a bed and breakfast. A greedy real estate agent, professional wrestler, reality TV show star, and a hippie with a surprising alter ego all get in on the fun. There are also many in-jokes for filmmakers and film buffs alike. Again, another fun film from Dave Wascavage shows that you don't need a huge budget to create a film that is intriguing, fun, and entertaining.

- WissenswertesOriginally the mushroom props were to be shipped to the set from a special effects studio in Canada, but they were intercepted at the border by custom agents and were destroyed as they looked so convincingly real and importing mushrooms from Canada was prohibited at the time.
