I worked as an EMT and I now work in a related field supplying EMS agencies with specialized medical products for use mainly with babies. I have a lot of contact with small town EMS personnel and I feel they captured her role and lifestyle quite well. There were some "Hollywood moments" but overall this was very entertaining and believable. Small town volunteers need more recognition for the sacrifices and dedication involved with supporting a community! I would love to see more shows like this because the large agencies (NYFD, LAFD, etc) get a lot of media attention and as important and heroic as these people are, there are many, many more small community heroes and heroines who deserve the same recognition.
The food writers Jane (Kathy Bates) and Michael Stern (Robin Thomas) have been married for thirty-three years, they love each other, but Jane is feeling insecure, depressed and with phobia, while Michael has been sober for three years. Jane decides to change her life getting her fears out of her head, and is encouraged by Michael to join the training of E.M.T. in the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department. Nobody believes in the clumsy Jane, but she concludes the training period and applies to the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and gets her certificate. She begins to work to Grafton Volunteer Fire Department, affecting her personal life and the long relationship with Michael.
"Ambulance Girl" is a nice movie with a great message and a fantastic performance of Kathy Bates. The story is well-balanced between comedy and drama, showing that we should resolve our innermost problems because "Fear is like a hologram. It seems real, filled with substance. And then, when you go beyond it, you realize it is just an illusion." My vote is seven.

I have always felt that when Kathy Bates appears on screen, the whole medium lights up. She has the Midas touch in films. "Ambulance Girl" may not be the most serious subject matter in the world, it tries to cross genres and be both serious and funny, but it works and I went with the funny. Kathy has a scene where she's trying on Ebay-purchased EMT gear, wreathed in delight, and dancing to James Brown music, I think it was. HILARIOUS! She must be quite a person to know up close and personal. I liked the fact that, for once, weight was not an issue. How refreshing, how free! Kathy looks adorable in her flannel pajamas, her robe and slippers, even in her supposedly serious bout with anxiety attacks and depression. I loved seeing her slumped on the couch, falling off absentmindedly! Also enjoyable was her self-help on the airliner when, afflicted with a numbing panic attack, she escaped her own symptoms by coming to the aid of a young diabetic passenger who had hit a low and who needed Kathy's sugar fix. I could watch Kathy Bates forever, just going through a normal day and doing what she does. It is a tribute to her magnetism that so many others feel this way, too. May her future hold many more roles, both funny and powerful. She is a great dramatic actress. Her range has never been fully explored in the cinema. Let us see what more she can do - and do magnificently! More Oscars for Kathy!
This was quite good, but Cathy Bates always is. She's funny and relatable here in a heartwarming and bittersweet story of a long term marriage going through some changes. Bates plays an anxiety ridden food writer who experiences a sort of mid life crises and decides to become an EMT despite her fear of (among other things) closed spaces -like the back of an ambulance.
Nobody including 'Jane' believes she'll make it through the training and her struggles provide the comic relief here. When Jane receives her certificate and joins the volunteer fire department it causes problems within her marriage and recently sober husband. This made for TYV movie is based on actual events and was also directed by Bates. 02.12.14

I really enjoyed this quirky show. I hope that it stays on the air, Kathy Bates is such a great actress. I really enjoyed the hunky Robin Thomas as her husband too. Thanks for such a great show!!
Parts of the show were a bit predictable, but being in the medical field myself, I could relate to some of the story lines.
We need more shows on TV like this one, she was a bit sarcastic and very realistic to the part.
The man that plays her mentor as an EMT was a very good actor also, I don't know his name off-hand, but he was good.
Please keep this show on, since my favorite Judging Amy has been cancelled, I have been looking for a new show to follow!!
