This was the third of three "home movies" included in the bonus features on the special edition DVD release of "The Missing" (2003). Each of the short films is western-themed, to tie-in with director Ron Howard's "first" western feature. They are certainly not the only home-movies Mr. Howard made, although currently presented as such. The year of production is given as 1969. At that time, Howard had finished "The Andy Griffith Show" a teenager and accepted stints on westerns like "Gunsmoke", while younger brother Clint Howard was the new TV kid in the family in the shorter-lived "Gentle Ben" co-starring their dad, Rance Howard.
This time father Rance is a lonely traveling cowboy. Apparently on a long journey, with two horses, Rance saddles up and rides. Like the other two shorts, "Old Paint" is basically a silent - but, this one has a soundtrack song to help tell the story. But the music to "Old Paint" (credited to Noel Salvatore) isn't very easy to understand, after all these years. While riding "off to Montana," Rance stops by a boy (Clint) and woman (mother Jean) who have just buried a loved one. Rance takes them to a stationmaster Bill Conklin, and continues on his journey to Montana. A cameo prompts Rance to recall his youth, with Ronny and Cheryl appearing.
**** Old Paint (1969) Ron Howard ~ Rance Howard, Clint Howard, Jean Howard, Bill Conklin

Short movie about a solitary cowboy that is proud of his style of life. As he says "even if he had a million" he wouldn't be different because he loves his countryside life
The film is a little boring because it has no dialogues in spite of having some characters, and some "interactions" between them
Instead of dialogs we have an annoying (!)singing by the main character telling us all his pride of being cowboy, and living in the countryside, and help people, and mount his horse Old Paint, and bla bla bla At the beginning it seems nice, but then it starts to be annoying always the same monotonous song
The original idea of this short movie is interesting, but it turns out boring!
