Grease Monkeys

"Grease Monkeys" How do I begin to describe this show ? It's not really like anything I've ever seen before, but has traces of "Billy Liar" and "The Boys from the Blackstuff".

Set in the world of the superhero (in his own mind) Dave Dhillon and his very odd but always engaging group of family and friends, we see ever more incredible escapades pan out in a surreal manner.

It's been a long time since the series was shown (WHY?) and my memory is not what it once was, but the episode where a disgruntled customer complains to Dave about his car remains at least translucent.

The gang believe they have killed the disgruntled customer and set about disposing of the body, however after deciding to cut up the corpse with an angle grinder he wakes up and promptly dies of shock. They then take the corpse in an office chair and dump it into the canal,but because the canal is full of rubbish the chair and corpse only partially submerge and remain in view.

The cast contains many actors who have become more famous since this series, including Ace Bhatti, lead character "Dave Dhillon" who has appeared in Corrie and New Street Law and Jake Wood who plays his best friend "Happy" who now appears as "Max Branning" in "Stenders".

Considering the rubbish purporting to be comedy being shown almost endlessly on BBC3 these days, most embarrassingly "Little Britain", surely the time has come to dust down this series and repeat and then I can end my regret that I didn't record these two series first time around.

Boy did I laugh.

What a little gem of a series. Going out on BBC 3 (cable only), this sitcom is about an Asian man running an old car dealership. Only fools and Horses on Acid, someone described it.

It's about Mo, his son Dave and daughter Rita. Daves friend Trevor, recently released from Prison, comes to work at the car yard. Trevors ultra-Christian mother refuses to have him back in the house. Trevors father is worries that his son will have become a "batty-boy" after his stay in prison. Watch for the vicars visit!

Mo is still visited by the ghost of his ex-wife (complete with rolling pin). Also introduced is Pinky, an old flame of Mo, who is told by the ghost to make a move on Mo, as he hasn't had it in 12 years.

The scene when Pinky climbs into Daves bed by mistake was hilarious

Forgive the poor quality review, but I really enjoyed this show and look forward to catching the rest.

And like all good series this has plenty of soul. When you don't expect it, a line or an action add an all new level to this show (mothers ghost watching her daughter and Pinky cooking together, or Dave and Trevor in the bathroom)

To be recommended.
