Curado de espantos

I remember watching this film many years ago with my father when I was still a child. I revisited this film thanks to tiktok and let me tell you I found it hilarious! As a low budget film, I had no expectations for it but the comedy, as I describe it, is very raw and Mexican. It is a bit vulgar and can see how people may find offense to it but I personally enjoyed it. The movie is about an archeologist (who is absolutely breath taking) who leads her team to uncover a tomb and wake up a vampire. She then recruits the help of curanderos to help her get rid of the vampire. It's one of those guilty pleasure type of films and the night club scenes are my favorite! I will definitely be watching it again!

This is fichera mixed with a parody of vampire movies.

Some Jewish Mexican vampire living the life of black-and-white film Dracula is on the prowl looking for women to satiate his thirst for feminine blood after being awakened by a young female archeologist. She enlists the help of in incompetent but powerful witch doctor and his bumbling apprentice to battle this force of wickedness. Dracula, on the other hand, is stuck with the aid of a slipshod and irreverent "Igor," played by famous fichera dwarf El Enano Tuntun.

The talents of Alfonso Zayas and company are well-used and they're at the top of their game with mugging at the camera and croaky voices. The dialogue is mildly clever, the awkward sex comedy bits for this genre are kept to a low constant simmer, and the timing of the jokes is spectacular.

As for the parody portion, it's mostly parodies of old universal monster movies. I will add that the guy who plays the vampire lends a lot of gravitas to the role and he wouldn't be out of place if he had played the character in a legitimate horror movie.

Due to probably financial and time constraints, the genre was very limited in Mexico in terms of quality and artistry, but they really made a solid effort here. It's probably the highest-quality fichera you'll ever see.

Honourable Mentions: Tres Lancheros Muy Picudos (1988). Another high-quality fichera worth mentioning. Also has many members of the cast that participated in this one.
