It has most certainly missed the mark

An American picture; it opens with a very pleasing scene, a little child with her grandmother looking at a picture book. A convict escapes from a nearby prison, and begs the grandmother to hide him. The scene changes to an interesting "dive" in Chinatown, New York City, where the escaped prisoner meets his old pals. The prisoner then breaks into a house and finds the little girl asleep. She wants him to take her up and thus saves her life. The aim of this nursery scene was pathos, but it has most certainly missed the mark. The effect is comic. The photographs are good. It teaches a moral lesson, but it is not a feature picture, in fact it is decidedly weak. - The Moving Picture World, April 20, 1912
