Dope Case Pending

I bought this movie at Wal-Mart for $1, money waisted. In the history of bad acting and low budget films, this one rises to the to like the curdling of bad milk. This movie proves that with popular rap stars headlining movie credits to get people to watch, a poor plot, lousy acting, poor sound quality and an unrealistic story line can generate a movie budget of some kind. The acting reminded me of little kids trying to act hard to impress their friends and you can clearly see the boom-mike at the dinner scene. Audio was terrible, fluctuating from character to character in the same scene. The plot put me to sleep. Well, I needed a glass coaster and I guess I got one.

yo peeps, thats some nice piece of gangsta movie. if you like them brothers dealing and s*** then that's the right movie for ya. however i saw that movie coz one of my friends plays the big boss in that movie, so i got a tape of it. the quality is pretty good for such a low budget movie. and you find also some rap-stars in there such as coolio and kid frost. so if you are a balla don't miss it. yeaaaaaaahhh baby, peace out, j

Dope case pending is one of those old school ghetto movies that still hits. There is oldie but goodie rapper Kid Frost who is one of my favorites to ever come out. Coolio makes a brief appearance adding star power to dope case. Patrick McKnight writes and directs from his heart. No sprinkling sugar on what the dope game is all about. Hands down show stopper in this movie is actor that plays FLAKES. He is riding dirty in rag top with a Pamela Anderson look giving a hard stare. Director Patrick McKnight did a straight P.O.V shot that was cooking.

Thinking forward a lot of people are going to come down hard on this movie. Sure I know it ain't American Gangster or Notorious. It was made before them back in a different time. It was urban before there was urban.

We might as well start referring to Sean Levert as the 21st century's Sidney Poitier. My boy can *act*. From the deadpan delivery of one-liner's like "as long as they still drugs, we sell 'em." to two eye-blinks and a head-shake after told of his mother's death, Hollywood needs to put an APB on this modern-day ghetto-thespian! To the casual viewer, the story may seem to be just another "black youth with star athlete potential gets involved with drugs and gangs and screws over his and his family's future" flick, but if one digs deeper a clear parallel (hommage?) to Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew" can be drawn easily.

Also, one may wonder if the writer was quite familiar with the literary works of Thomas Pynchon, because there are two scenes (the hot-tub, open-mouth, sloppy tongue-kiss scene, and the scene in which Coolio is taunting Devon in the bar and purposefully mispronouncing his name) that are direct references to certain parts of "Gravity's Rainbow".

In short, this is a masterful commentary on the plight of poor black youths in the late 1980s. It goes without saying that, when one looks past the misprints and misspellings on the DVD case and the horrible lighting and camcorder-quality cinematography and absolutely horrible sound, much care and flawless craft went into this production.

BOOYAH!

I bought the movie at Wal-Mart for a measly dollar. If you've been to Wal Mart, you've seen that area where they have a ton of dollar movies. I was really looking hard and found this one, which actually appealed to me as far as how it looked. My biggest problem with the movie was that the characters were barely developed. Outside of the main character and maybe the oldest brother, the other characters are both boring and, though relevant to the boring storyline, are made irrelevant due to the film's failure to give these characters any personality. You put Coolio on the cover of the movie, and he probably has 5 total minutes of on-screen time. Every character also appears almost randomly and there is absolutely no introduction; leaving you to be confused until that character does something profound to fully show what type of character he is. I do, however, think that the movie is extremely grimy. The focus on gun violence is almost over done, however. The movie is incredibly low budget, and it shows. If you watch this movie, don't expect it to top your favorite movies list, but I think it's something that you can watch as a novelty movie about once or twice a year.
