The plot is far too intrictate and involves many twists for a brief plot synopsis. It is a murder mystery involving five suspects, three of which are plotting an insurance scam. And it is far from predictable, and always has the viewers changing their suspicions as to who the culprit is or how the crime(s) will occur. And unlike most thrillers, there are no innocent characters. And no hereos.
I must admit that I was initially fooled into thinking that this was going to be a waste of two hours watching once against, another generic thriller. The first murder takes place at the beginning of the film and presents the setting for the remainder of the filn. Upon seeing it, however, I thought oh god! This is going to be a waste of a two hours. The suspense and everything appeared so generic. But this movie is far from a by-the-book thriller. Additionally, it's a mix of humor and suspense and drama. The British sure can write a good horror/supsense film.
It is definitely worth watching.

I have seen hundreds of thrillers and this one did surprise me. The acting is good, the plot twists are unpredictable and the story moves along at a good pace. I was generally surprised a few times. There are a few things that did bother me though: The look of the movie though feels like a made for TV movie but the story is way above most films in this genre. The killer really isn't that scary but instead just a little too generic. Please, be creative with the killer's costume, I'm tired of the same old all black outfit and leather mask get up. Overall, if you like the thriller genre, I would certainly recommend this movie and that is not something I do often.
Awesome movie for how low the budget is. Lots of plot twists, very unpredictable, keeps you guessing what will happen next. Very well made considering the resources at hand.
This one really took me by surprise, I picked it up just looking for something new and not really expecting much, but what I got was a great viewing experience. The characters are well written and unique with distinct personality traits, the premise of the movie is fantastic, made even better by a series of plot twists leaving you never certain about what is going to happen next! The budget is noticeably very low, but if that's something you can look past or enjoy, then you should love this movie! Highly recommend to anyone who doesn't mind a cheap film, in order to enjoy an excellent story. Worth the watch!
Making a Killing is not a perfect film by all means, though considering that it was the first film for writer and director Ryan L.Driscoll it was more or less what I was expecting. I do think that the film had too many plot twists which complicate things a bit too much, and not all of them are developed enough. The killer I also found hammy and unconvincing. However, Making a Killing is not bad at all. Sometimes there is too much of a TV movie feel in how the film looks but compared to other films made on a similar budget Making a Killing is hardly what you call cheap. The writing has some nice humour and suspense, the story is intriguing on the whole and has tension though could have been even better if there was a few less plot twists and more expansion, and the pacing is efficient. Making a Killing is directed solidly if understandably a little too safe in places, and on the most part the acting is good. So in conclusion, I recommend Making a Killing, for a first-timer it is actually pretty good though could have been even better with a little more polish. 7/10 Bethany Cox
