Fly Tales

This was more of an intermission show during the days of Teletoon. All it was about a fly getting into "sticky situations". That's it. What's not to like?

Animation was good, and the production was unique. This was no voice-overs it was just music and sound effects.

Last Words: Normally I kill flies. Although, this fly can live. It's a cool little show.

Absoluetly Wicked.....I love this cartoon.... Yeah its got its philosophy and it makes profound statements, its also absolutely hilarious, it used to show late night in the UK, five years on and I have only just found out it can be bought in Australia, very funny and very well written (yes i know there are no words, maybe i mean choreographed??). This cartoon has it all, its funny for kids and adults will watch one and want to watch them all. Lewis Trondheim hit a master stroke with this one and it really has not lost its innocence in the translation from comic strip to small screen. Please note that this cartoon is also called "Les Aventures d'une Mouche" in France, and "Moucha" in Czecheslovakia where I believe it is still aired.

This cartoon is simply brilliant. That much is clear. But the reason perhaps, that it is so good is because it has no words, and so all people from any corner of the Earth can understand it. The brilliance is in watching the little fly's next move in his day-to-day exploits. With that, there is also usage of gags from other cartoons done by the same creator. The usually short stories center on one little fly, who resembles a certain alien conqueror done by the short's creator, Lewis Trondheim. With the fly buzzing around in his adventures, he normally meets havoc by running into larger creatures of belligerent natures or meeting dilemmas which seem to have no resolution. But these are the challenges which make this cartoon worth watching. Simply put, this is a brilliant cartoon short. Its humor is fresh and the characters are well drawn for these shorts. While the episodes can get odd, it's that which makes them well worth watching.

I remember when I used to switch on the T.V to watch 5 minutes of one of the greatest animations ever created. It doesn't only appeal to the young but also the old with it's complex yet simple plot. Although not evident it touches the surface of philosophy as it explores the world through innocent eyes of a fly. At times it brushes with your intellect seeing how small things for some can make a large impact to others and it also belittles our society as it shows that the fuss we make is almost always selfish without consideration of others. The fly explores our world physically but more evidently emotionally as it explores the simpler emotions of frustrations of life through small things such as not being able to sleep and happiness over a drop of orange soda. Unfortunately it is not to well known and maybe it's for the better that it is not being caught up in todays commercialism.
