Aalkkoottathil Thaniye (the actual title of the film, instead of the English translation used by IMDB) is Malayalam language film starring Mammootty and Seema.
It's a typical family drama with some broken hearts, some family compulsions, greed and selfishness contrasted by selflessness of a few characters. The film intends to inspire family relationships above everything.
The title and theme are centred around Seema's character - a testimony of her sacrifice and subsequent loneliness. It also could refer to Mammootty's character, who despite a family is lonely. And so is an ailing father, whose ailment and subsequent get together of the family is what the story is centred around.
Some questions are left unanswered while it's explicitly shown that the story ends with Seema's character being once again lonely: Who takes care of the ailing father when the family members leave one after another. Who takes care of the son if the mother is to fly away for higher studies - will he be left to loneliness himself..
Performances are excellent. It's not clear why Mohanlal is shown in many of the posters, and on top of the IMDB cast list - he only has a guest appearance.
Watch it for a fine family drama from the 80s.
