    By God they were right!!!

I couldn't believe that this movie was as bad as people were saying it was. Surely there must be some redeeming quality. Surely it could not be as cringe worthy, vomit inducing as they said...I was wrong. Way wrong. Almost every scene and line is painful. I love Lisa Kudrow. She gives it her all, but that's all I can say. What a sad time for our country.

    Hilarious

First of all I thought that this movie was hilarious. I thought that the whole gansta rap thing was very funny. But having the gansta rap mixed with rich Jewish women was even funnier. I especially liked the power in her purse song lisa kudrow did. There were sorta corny jokes that were slipped in there that were hilarious like the ones her friends would add in. Such as when her friends would ask her if she has eaten anything and the jokes about heroin. The end was very funny because Marci becomes Marci X, her friends become hoes, Boyz R Us are out of the closet, Marci and Dr. S get together, etc. Overall I thought it was a great movie. The actors and actresses were great too.

I didn't think it was so bad...

For what it purported to be, a musical comedy, it did ok. I'm no great fan of rap, so this had to be light. Of course, the courtroom scene was way over the top, but if you go back and look at some of those old Jane Powell musicals, they burst into song in the strangest places and any "spontaneous" dance is choreographed and well rehearsed, as are all the "numbers" in this one.

Of course, it's much easier and the motivation is stronger [I spent money for that!]to write a bad review than a good one, so trashing it is expected. Too bad the-powers-that-be at IMDB can't sort these into two headings instead of one generic because usually the bad reviews get in first. This'll be #29 and probably will never be read. "Que sera sera, y'all, I reckon," as they say in southern Italy.

A travesty--and very painful to watch

I think that, at some point, there was a good script behind this film. In the process of producing it, though, things went wrong. Hideously wrong.

There are some extremely biting jokes in this film, and that is the best I can say about it.

If, indeed, the film did start out with a good script, then shame on the filmmakers for ruining it.

If this film started out nearly as bad as it ended up being, then the actors must have been desperate; Wayans and Krakowski, for publicity, Baranski, for money, and Kudrow, for....

You really have to wonder why Lisa Kudrow was in this film. She doesn't need the money, and she doesn't need the fame. What she needs is to break into the movies (something certain "Friends" stars can't seem to manage), and you can see from a mile away that this is not going to help her do that.

Don't pay to watch this. Don't even spend your time on it.

    Flat-footed satire of music business

There's probably an entertaining comedy buried somewhere in this mess, but this whole movie appears to be a first draft that was rushed into production. There was potential, considering it has a screenplay by the impish Paul Rudd, a musical score of funny songs by the team that did Broadway's HAIRSPRAY, as well as some of Broadway's brightest acting talent. But the whole thing is just too farfetched. I didn't buy the movie's central premise that a music company was in financial trouble because the public was boycotting its products on account of its tasteless and obscene products. Please. The American public laps up tastelessness and obscenity. But even assuming you are able to accept that, the movie is so heavy-handed that it's only occasionally funny. The best parts are the musical numbers, especially `Let's Date.' I wish the rest of the movie had been as funny. I think the movie's appeal is to a very small audience – gay male Jewish New Yorkers in show business. Other people are going to be squirming throughout the film's brief duration.
