This movie is actually about 2 families living in the same area. One is an honest family and is poor and the other is taking bribes and is going up the ladder of wealth quite fast. But since it is a Hindi movie eventually the honest family will be happier in life than the poor family. Balraj Sahni, Nirupa Roy, Rakesh Roshan, Sharda and jr Mehmood all give good performances. A few hummable songs with one alltime great by the one and the only maestro KISHORE KUMAR. Rakesh Roshan has a reasanable role in this movie. But i guess this movie made quite a impression on him because once he became a director he remade this movie (atleasat the concept) as KALA BAZAAR with Anil Kapoor, Jackie Schroiff, Farah Naaz, Kimmi and Kadar Khan

A nice family movie. Teaches a lot. The content is relevant even after 40 years and would always be so. A nice watch to teach your kids the importance of money. Must watch for families that want to teach their kids the value of money.It is about two families with different value systems. What will happen to each of them is quite predictable but it is entertaining all the same. The part where a guest arrives and refuses to budge is quite funny. Great performances by Balraj Sahni and the three child artists. Nirupa Roy also did justice to her role. Junior Mehmood was fun to watch. Some nice songs, especially 'Sama Hai...'.

Movie is of simplistic nature with a story of father who struggles to meet the demands of his childrens because his salary is not that much and he's honest with his work, to give them a lesson he assigns responsibility to elder son to make the budget with given salary of his father and accordingly manage everything in the house. In parallel stories of 2 families also follows, on in which a father takes bribe from others and second in which a small boy falls in the trap of gambling. Story demonstrates how the honest family handles the situation in contrast to how others were making their living and how in the process kids learn the importance and value of money.

Must family pick. All the actors have done good/decent job. Simple, effective and Good storyline. Music was given by Kalyanji-Anandji with lyrics of Hasrat jaipuri. Soundtrack has 4 songs including one of the most beautiful and evergreen - "Sama hai suhana suhana" sung by Kishore Kumar.
