May you be released on DVD !!!!

On the way home from Italy, where she went to visit her daughter who was studying there .....Christina Markatou is unable to go home because of a terrible snow storm. In a little Italian hotel , without knowing any Italian she meets the love of her life....Antonis. And thus the story begins.A modern day 'Graduate-esque' prime time show. The characters lovable. The undying Grandma - witty, poisonous and always so bitchy-.The good friend -Sascha , a 30/40-ish femme fatale long before Samantha from SATC ever appeared-.The caring and loving maid/care taker - a girl that knew so much more than she let people know. Lines that could break bones and twists that made you wish for more.

May we live to see your DVD release ......Are Greek TV networks ever gonna release anything on DVD??????????????

"Dolce Vita" 20 Years Since the Satirical Poetry of Rigas and Papapetrou

Two decades have passed since Greek television was gifted its first true "urban tragedy in doses of laughter." "Dolce Vita" by Alexandros Rigas and Lefteris Papapetrou was not just a comedy. It was a character study, a delicate satire of bourgeois hypocrisy and social stereotypes, wrapped in fine lace of irony and theatrical aesthetic.

On the surface, the series charmed with its humor. The creators' comic vein was sharp, dynamic, but never crude. Rigas's language-a style almost erotic in texture-weaved lines that became iconic quotes, while Papapetrou's dramaturgy highlighted the silent trauma behind every seemingly ridiculous conflict. The characters reflected a society ready to laugh at itself, but also to hurt deeply.

Behind every joke, there was a "why." The victim of this bloodless social surgery was Christina-brilliantly portrayed by Anna Panagiotopoulou-a Lady of aristocratic lineage, who not only defended her love, but carried an entire moral stance, an unspoken passion for life - an inner revolution dressed in satin and pearls.

That is the power of Rigas's pen: to strip the ephemeral, to purify the forbidden, to give substance to the morally weak as something humanly tragic.

The genealogical tetralogy of the series stands among its wisest dramatic achievements. Four women -four cultural and ethical universes: Grandmother Olga, a strong woman, a present-day "Bouboulina", who carries the strict yet romantic code of another Greece.

Christina, trapped between duty and love, belongs to the generation that slipped between two eras - neither revolutionary, nor conservative.

Dorita, the daughter, represents youth that still hasn't decided what to do with the freedom it has inherited.

Aspasia (the Virgin), with sweet eyes and a pure mind, functions as the "Holy Spirit" of the house. A figure who carries the sarcasm of the people, unadorned.

This generational gap is not presented as a mere domestic confusion, but as a cycle of Mother Nature - where each woman stands before the same riddle: what does it mean to be "morally accepted" when you carry desire?

A distinct place in the series belongs to Sasa, Christina's friend. Behind her biting tongue and subversive punchlines, Sasa embodies a new narrative of femininity. She is not "the easy one," not the cliché of the "loose woman" - she is a woman full of longing and need, who demystifies love and the body without disgracing them. Through her humor and unabashed honesty, Sasa suggests that a woman with passion is never shameful - she is simply alive.

The brilliant Alexandros Rigas clothed the series' visual universe with an aesthetic that went far beyond props and costumes - it defined an era. The scenes in Christina and Aspasia's living room, filled with antiques and rococo sofas, were not just décor: they were visual commentaries on social decay. Papapetrou composed the dialogues with the structure of classical theater: rhythm, repetition, climax, and lyrical closures.

The satire transfigured into social metaphor, where comedy becomes political commentary - not partisan, but systemic. A society in bloom, yet filled with plastic and posturing.

Dolce Vita could well be seen as the comic sister of the series "Anastasia." Where Anastasia sketches the erotic conflicts and the trauma of desire with dramatic intensity, Dolce Vita treads the same path with the bitter smile of satire. Antonis, caught in the trio between mother and daughter, just like Anastasia between father and son, bows with a talent that manages to diminish neither the man nor the woman. These are characters portrayed not as sexist relics nor innocent moral guides.

The series is neither patriarchal nor matriarchal. It is human, with a sublime balance between feminine and masculine elements - in a world seemingly governed by women, but deeply functioning as a space of shared loneliness.

Dolce Vita was not merely a series. It was a moral chronicle traced in comic lines, a sparkling farce with a tragic texture. The pen of Rigas and Papapetrou created an era of television sincerity, where social caricature revealed human truth. And twenty years later, their work has not aged a single day.

It was a time when television ceased merely imitating life - and began to comment on it, with style and with courage.
