Syrinx

The first short directed by Ryan Larkin is a rather ethereal retelling of the myth of Pan and Syrinx.

Disregard of its brevity, the result is quite wonderfully done.

I've just seen Ryan Larkin's "Syrinx" along with other two creations of this brilliant animator, "Street Musique" and "Walking" during the Buenos Aires Festival of Independent Cinema and I must say that this one wasn't as good as the other two, but anyway, the incredible combination between drawings and classical music let you spend 3 minutes of relax and visual amusement. I've felt it pretty much more because previously it was projected the Oscar winner "Ryan", which pays homage to Ryan Larkin, and "Alter Egos", which is the making of Ryan and a biography of him. In conclusion, it's a must see for all the animation adepts, not only this one, but clearly every single Larkin creation.

'Syrinx' is just one among many obscure avant garde animated shorts I have seen over the recent years, and, like nearly every other film that fits into this "obscure-avant-garde-animated-shorts" subcategory I've created, I really dug it. The animation style is extremely beautiful and eye-popping, so much so I barely payed much attention to what was going on in the story, though some elements of it are obviously blatantly clear regardless. It was quite mesmerizing to look at and is accompanied by a seductive score and is available online for free in a very nice high quality print so I recommend everyone check it out considering it's not even three minutes in length.
