I had seen this movie years ago and was looking to see it again. I love IMDb streaming as an escape from the dreary broadcast and cable showings
IMDb is great for escapism and this movie is one and yes, Regina King was relatively unknown when this was made but one of my favs. It was also fun to see real life husband and wife, Laurie Walters and Linden Ashby once again together in a film but not related in said film. The fact that Portland was used for the scenic backdrops of Memphis speaks volumes of the confidence of passing it off as Memphis . I immediately recognized the familar bridges, waterways , splendor of what was once a beautiful city until the rioters took over.
Love the storyline, the twists and turns . Loved the interior shots of the courthouse , took me back to times having worked in the county courthouse there . The ending was so unexpected but delicious.

Enjoyable, with a few nice little twists and turns and with much better acting than most TV movies can manage, mainly due to Marlee Matlin and Regina King. It's by no means perfect - the plot is a little too transparent, it does try one's suspension of disbelief at times and there is an element of over-simplicity to it - but it was a surprisingly absorbing movie even with its problems. A deaf woman is accused of a murder and the lawyer who's charged with defending her has the task of unravelling what really happened; it's certainly not up to the standard of Grisham-esquire courtroom dramas, but it doesn't disappoint.
I gave it an 8 because it really held my attention (against the complaints of my aging prostate), plus Marlee Matlin (as Dana Sue Lacey) and Regina King (as Ronnie Williams) were completely transparent in their roles. Really good acting is always worth the effort to experience.
I thought this movie would be like the average TV Movie, but a good performance by Regina King, and the uniqueness of having a deaf star character put it over the top. Ms. Matlin plays (Dana Lacy) a deaf woman and campaign leader who is put on trial for the murder of her employer, Senatorial Candidate Sander Morgan. Regina King plays Ronnie, her (Female Johnny Cochran) lawyer who has never lost a case. This film has a Memphis setting, so it is comparable to John Grisham books. This movie has a surprise twist ending, and it kept me interested until the final second. I would give this movie a B+.It is not as good as Grisham, but good enough.
I just recently seen this movie on television and thought that it was excellent!
Regina King is well known to a number of people for her big screen and small screen roles but still she is not a 'complete' household name as of yet! A crime in it's own right! But her performance in this movie was superb as a Memphis lawyer trying to prove her client's (Marlee Matlin) innocence. Ms. Matlin's performance was good along with the supporting cast but Regina stood out. The movie kept me from beginning to end. Definitely a 'worth seeing'.

- PatzerDuring the mug shot montage, Dana is shown holding a placard that says "Metro Police, County of Memphis". A metropolitan police department does not send its prisoners to a county agency for mug shots. The only "Metro" in Memphis is the bus - the police department is called simply "MPD - Memphis Police Department". And Memphis is in Shelby County - there is no Memphis County in Tennessee.
