Florence ist verrückt

Following a car accident, Lucile falls into a lethargic state. When she wakes up, she recognizes no one around her and declares her name to be Florence Bolero, an international pop star. After vain attempts to provoke the psychological shock that will save her, her husband is forced to indulge his wife's myriad whims, leading her into an absolutely extravagant existence.

Georges Lacombe's name is slowly fading today ,but some people may remember "Le Dernier Des Six" "Martin Roumagnac" " La Lumière D'En Face " (feat B. Bardot). Unfortunately ,his finest effort ,"Le pays Sans Etoiles" , a movie which compares favorably with the best of Jacques Tourneur,remains widely overlooked.

This one is a comedy;it's uneven ,but it has its moments ; a conformist bourgeois couple-who makes love only on Thursday- sees their whole house turned upside down;the wife Lucile suffers from some kind of "split personality ":she believes she is a famous singer ;their doctor 's got no clue but declares that this bout of madness may last fifteen minutes ,one year,or maybe ten years; the rigid husband is none the wiser after this dubious diagnostic and is forced to become his wife's manager ;add a mother-in-law who declaims Corneille's "Le Cid ".

The first part is excellent but things degenerate in the music hall scenes,with the obligatory songs and the conventional mistaken identities; but the movie regains its comic force towards the ending.
