The first Elvis Gratton picture has become a cult movie. Now we have a sequel done with a small budget rather than the first movie's microscopic one. It may not have the "cult" quality the first one had, but it is rather good, and I recommend it to any Elvis Gratton fan.
I had plenty of good laughs for the first hour or so. On the negative side, the last 10-15 minutes are totally out of place and are really a hard sell of the movie's underlying socio-political theme. I had understood it very well in the first hour. It was unnecessary to "rub it in".

That's my favorite comedie-quebecoise I ever seen after Elvis Gratton. Isn't this amazing...the first one which was never played on Big Screen has a sequel which IS on big screen.
It's not like some US movies that turns into TV series or get Direct-to-video sequels.
Pierre Falardeau did an excellent job getting all the jokes in the last 14 years after the end of Gratton I.

Elvis Gratton: Miracle à Memphis is one of the greatest comedies of the year in Canada. It's a superb movie with some hard messages for the canadian goverment. Pierre Falardeau hit hard and he don't miss the target with this sequel to the cult movie Elvis Gratton. Julien Poulin is excellent. We see an original end with humour.

This is not really a sequel to the first one, as no sequels were really possible. But they found a way to do it in a illogical manner, which can be quite funny by moments. But, we need to remember that this movie was made to fund the production of the movie "15 Février 1839", which, for me and many Quebecers I'm sure, is a valid cause.
The movie picks up (sort of) where the first movie end, summarily explaining the what and why, which have no consequences, or importance for that matter, on the final result. It is more like a sequence of gags à la Benny Hill than a real movie but it tries real hard to have a continuity. Except for the scene where the director and the main actor explain the movie (I can't believe they did not cut that one out) the movie has funny moments, probably more if you're drunk but who knows...
As much as I hate to admit it, Elvis Gratton is the worst part of Quebec, but, in a pre-Borat world, it was the best of its kind.

The first Elvis Gratton, in 1985, was witty and funny. But this one is a collection of stupid jokes. Some Canadian federalists disliked this movie because it was making fun of the Canadian government and institutions. Some people from Québec who favor independence from Canada saw it as a great movie for their cause. I, being only a film lover, think it's stupid from beginning to end.
Sure, there's a few good jokes. But Falardeau tries to make them go forever. A scene is funny for 20-30 seconds but keeps going up for 5 minutes. So you have 30 seconds of fun and 4 and half minutes of yawns.
See the first one and definitely skip this one!
