Rocked My World When I Needed It

This movie really made me feel happy about love and life at a time when I really needed it. I guess I have always been that way about movies, especially romantic movies. At first I did not think I was going to get into it, but along the way, I really got into it. It restored my faith in love. What can I say? It is just one of those movies for me.

I can't relate to people who don't like this and other movies about love. Sometimes I think those people who hate love stories are mean spirited, angry and basically lonely. (Hello, they are lonely for a reason). But anyway people like me who like romantic movies will like this one.

I like the acting and found it very emotionally real. I did not know the actors by name but I knew all of their faces. This movie restored my faith in love and life. I gave this movie a 9 out of 10.

Quality independent film

Overall, I think this is a very good film. I think some of the performances are better than others - Troy Winbush and Lupe Ontiveros are hilarious! The story is a simple one, but it keeps you guessing - I really didn't know what the character of Gabriela would do in the end. The film keeps you entertained throughout with a sense of humor and some off the wall characters. You can tell the film was an independent film, with a few of the scenes a little grainy, but visually it is quite impressive. I definitely recommend people check this one out.

A Great Date Movie

Far from the bloody nonsense of so many independent films, here is a film that has characters and situations regular people can relate to.

Charming and engaging, this is a movie that stays with you for a long time afterwards.

The actors do an amazing job and are very well directed.

The photography is beautiful and evocative and the music is much better than in most recent films. The song "Te Amo" will stay with you for a long time, in part thanks to an intentionally slightly off-key, yet heartwarming live performance of it by the lead Jaime Gomez.

Engrossing Love Story

Great character! That's what love stories and romantic movies are about, and this movie has them in droves, from the airheaded Hungarian Princess played with gusto by Stacy Haiduk, to the doting grandmother played with non-stop motormouth by the great Lupe Ontiveros, "Gabriela" has great supporting characters. Of course, this would be nothing if the two leads, Mike and Gabriela weren't fully fleshed, three dimensional characters, and they are. A totally engrossing film.

Jaime Gomez shines

I've been a fan of Jaime Gomez ever since I saw him play an undercover cop in Nash Bridges passing for a transvestite. I figured if the guy managed not to lose his cool or his sense of humor in such a situation (not to mention managing to look pretty good in high heels) he'd be an actor to watch.

His part in Gabriela is very different from Nash Bridges or all the other "tough guy" parts that he's played over the last few years (he's a little typecast as the cop/soldier) and he shines with a lot of warmth and feeling, equally convincing as a social worker as he was as a cop.

A very touching performance in a very touching independent film, and he doesn't even need to wear a dress!
