Bombay Boys one of the best movies I have seen. Kaizad Gustad has definitely proven himself to be a good director. The movie is mainly about 3 NRI's and their unfortunate adventure in the country of their forefathers. Tara Deshpande acting was simply superb and Nasarudin Shah...what can I say played his part perfectly as usual. Naveen Andrew character was notoriously hilarious especially the part where he narrates romantic lines to a bearded extra and when a goverment officer informs the boys about the change of name 'Bombay' tp 'Mumbai'
In a time where India becomes westernized and influenced by satelitte TV, many Indians do not realize that NRI's are not as westernized as they think. In fact many Indians outside India have more traditional values.Bombay Boys did a good job in pointing out that westernization and American Imperialism is vividly clear in India.
I liked the editing in this movie but the ending was kind of an anti climax or rather 'hindi-movieish'
However this movie is definitely worth a watch if not for the story line, the impresive acting of its cast.

This movie is just fabulous and despite being ahead of its time was a box office success that spawned many more films in its genre. Nasiruddin Shah is magnificent and ably supported by a mouth watering Tara Deshpande whose performance is touching and funny at the same time. The three 'sexpats' and their emotional baggage makes for a terrific counter play to the complex, sad and sometimes dangerous cityscape of Mumbai. Naveen Andrews and Tara Deshpande's dance performance is just hysterical. The music is great- Waltzing Matunga is an all time favorite and Javed Jaffery's I am Mumbhai- referring to the Mumbai gangster era is great too.
please have more from Dolly, Mastana and Kaizad Gustad? A sequel?

I loved the movie, every character and every line is superb. The movie has the look and style of Quentin Tarantino, in my view.
Being an NRI who migrated out of Mumbai, I can identify myself completely with the lead protagonists.
Gripping and funny, it provides a view of Mumbai not seen in mainstream media. The spoof on bollywood itself is hilarious. Worth a watch for every Mumbai-ite. This is the side of Mumbai we all ignore and are embarrassed to reveal. Kaizad has done an excellent job of portraying it honestly and without judgement.
Highlight of the movie: Naseeruddin Shah (hardly surprising.)
Now only if Rahul Bose had worked harder on the Aussie accent :)
Would love to see more from Kaizad Gustad.

Finally, Bombay (now Mumbai) appears to us as the westernized megalopolis that it is. The film does not dwell on the misery of the slum dwellers, or on mysticism, but rather on the young, artsy, middle-class scene in this great Indian city. The three hip, returning "hyphenated" young Indians explore very real aspects of life in modern India. The film is very bold in its statements about India's huge film industry ("Bollywood"), Western morals and values prevalent among young people, and male homosexuality (still illegal in India). ..............................................................Indian film censorship is so severe, even though the script is pre-approved (as it first must be submitted to a board), a government censor is still present at all shootings. Despite that level of censorship before and during the filming, the movie was cut and the original negative was not even returned to the screenwriter/filmmaker. According to the director at a recent screening, the film suffered over 20 cuts and lost a few minutes of its running time, and not just for illegal sexual acts. Adding to the film's controversy, a couple of cinemas were burned down in protest of the "depravation" shown in the film (allegedly, this is common in India; the situation was worse when FIRE premiered). Undeniably, BOMBAY BOYS makes its statements in stylish, and innovative ways not common in Indian films. A real gem.
Wow, just blown away. The satire is strong with this one. 😁😁😁
Perfectly encapsulates Mumbai and most of Bollywood at the time. Dark, witty and with brilliant performances all around. Shows the darker side of Mumbai and has a very real feel to it. The music is just amazing as well. Naseeruddin Shah steals the show, unsurprisingly and Tara Deshpande is just unreal. Rahul Bose was pretty good as well. And Naveen Andrews is just sooo out of place, and rightfully so... 😂🤣😂
Can just imagine how much they must have had making this one.
Unfortunately, had to watch the Hindi version as the unrated, original in English just isn't available anywhere, but still. : )
