Perhaps (but i can think this for sure) this is the funniest comedy ever made, not only in Italy. I can tell this, having seen dozens of comedies from all over the world (and "Vieni avanti cretino" ranks far better than such hits as "Clerks" or "Dumb & Dumber", which i've really appreciated). The story itself is quite simple but the characters (especially Pasquale Baudaffi - i.e. Lino Banfi) make this an unmissable film. The scenes it is composed of, have been re-played in various situations and often they are a significant part of every comic-actor baggage. As i said, the best characterization is the one by Lino Banfi, but Gigi Reder (the famous "Rag. Filini" from the Fantozzi saga) is almost as astonishing as Banfi. There is also a small role played by the unforgettable Moana Pozzi (the best female porn-star of all times) plus the addition of various Italian sexy-stars of the 80's (Michela Miti above all). Explaining this films with few words would be as difficult as summarizing the entire Divine Comedy ("Vieni avanti, cretino!" could be considered the Divine Comedy of the comedy films, indeed :) in two lines. Perhaps an English translation of the incredible dialogues could turn in a loss of efficacy, but that should be overwhelmed by the strong pathos which any actor casts in his/her role. Strongly recommended (with particular regards for the dentist scene and also for the Coliseum scene, not to mention the breathtaking scene of the famous "Dr. Thomas"!!!)
Luciano Salce Luciano Salce, directs a very inspired Lino Banfi.

Just saw it again after years, I laughed 'til tears !!! Brilliant, Luciano Salce is a great director, Lino Banfi has never been so funny...the story is simple but this is a MUST !!! The coffe scene, Dr.Thomas and so on are things that just make all laugh whenever you start remembering, and most of the quotes are now common use in Italian language. I'm going to have a party with my friends, of course this and "L'allenatore nel pallone"(another great Banfi movie) are the main course !!!
Ciao
P.S. Of course you should be 30 or above to lnow and appreciate it, every generation has their myths...

Vieni avanti cretino is the masterpiece of Luciano Salice, considered the better comic flick with Lino Banfi, when you see that movie you will never stop to laugh! The film talk about the misfortune of the unlucky and unemployed Baudaffi Pasquale(Lino Banfi). Don't forget Alfonso Thomas in his best role!! Maybe the last good product of the Italian erotic-comedy! A must see for the fan of this genre!!! Unfortunately is not available in any format, check the TV in the late hour to catch him!
Lino Banfi reached the pinnacle of his acting career,as a comedian,in this robust comedy. The movie is very enjoyable from the very start. One of the film assets is Franco Bracardi. This often forgotten comedy genius is the perfect sidekick for Banfi; a perfect example of this special relationship is the scene where Bracardi mimes to Banfi, and the Apulian actor has to act in front of Bracardi's character wife.Overall a very good comedy that is up there with the likes of "Febbre da cavallo" and "Fracchia la belva umana".

- WissenswertesThe original title is taken from a gag of the De Rege brothers, a couple of Italian stage actors active between the 1920s and the 1940s. Most of the movie gags are indeed typical of the avanspettacolo, the theatrical genre of the De Rege brothers.
