Hush, Darling, Why Do You Think I Have Poisoned You?

Sidney Drew has been getting a raise, but hasn't told his wife about the full extent. His friend says it's what all husbands do in order to put aside some savings. Meanwhile, Mrs. Sidney Drew has also been putting money aside without telling her husband. Her friends tell her that if men think there's all that money, they'll do something foolish with it, and it will be gone when it's really needed.

That's the premise of this Mr. & Mrs. Sidney Drew comedy from Vitagraph. They made hundreds of them, and they average very funny, making mock of middle-class foibles in a manner than still appeals more than a century later. Mrs. Drew frequently wrote the scripts. Mr. Drew enlivened them with his wonderful stage business. This is one of them.
