Polskie drogi

Polskie drogi means Polish road, but can also be translated as polish fates. The series starts in september 1939, during the German invasion of Poland. It shows different reactions of polish people to this and to the later occupation. Some are resisting, some try to accomodate, some try to live as if nothing happened. The series is good, the music is very good. The main theme is one of the best I've ever heard.

"Polskie Drogi" was one of the most popular TV series of the'70s and '80s. This is the epic story with many threads. A film about Polish fates during the World War II. "The Time of Contemption" is shown from the point of view of two soldiers: Lt.Wladyslaw Niwinski and Sgt.Kuras, who fought together against Germans when the war started. The directors wanted to show the common days of German occupation in Poland. The conspiracy, military actions and gunfires were confined by authors' design, giving more place for showing all ranks of people in that times. It shows them startled by the history, and their fight about survival in the mean time of Nazi terror. Very good movie with great music. U can watch it on TV Polonia with English subtitles. (while played of course).

Don't get me wrong, on artistic or screenplay level it's not bad television series.

What makes it unreliable is that the director didn't include any - not even a small one - topic about tragic fate of Jews during WW2 on polish occupied territories.

Jews were huge part of polish society then and intertwined with polish people on so many levels, it is unforgivable that they weren't even mentioned in this tv series, like...they never existed.

It is no wonder because postwar poland and its cinematography was very much antisemitic, and promoted fake narration than poles were the only victims from Nazis.

The series also omits totalitarian role of Soviet Union but this is more explainable than omission of Jews history, due to censorship in poland until 1989.

Summing it up, this not historically reliable series, and was negatively reviewed by professional historians. In poland it may have high rating because of polish sentiments and general ignorance of Jews tragic history.
