Things are finally getting somewhere regarding the highly anticipated Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake. While there have been several updates since the show's announcement in 2022, there was one really big update back in May 2024 that wasn't what fans were expecting. Alexandre Aja is one of those filmmakers whose work I’ll always sit up and pay attention to. It’s because the man has consistently created horror movies that have scared, fascinated, and downright pissed me off as a human being. He’s provocative, in all the right ways.

Before rewatching Mirrors (get it Here), I was a little confused as to why it’s either forgotten or, honestly, kind of hated on. It was one of those movies that I saw in theaters when it came out and then have clear memories of when it came to my Blockbuster for rent. It’s got a fun cast of reliables and was directed by one of the early 2000s freshest and goriest directors. The director has gone on to have a steady and varied career and his new movie starring Halle Berry called Never Let Go sounds as intriguing as ever. Strangeland was one of those random bubblecase VHS horror rentals from the local video store that made you feel like you’d won the lottery. Were you as shocked as we were while watching “The Masked Singer” on March 29 to discover that the celebrity competing as the Doll was a man? When the character first appeared onstage at the start of the 80’s Night episode, we thought it was a woman hiding inside this elaborate costume. After the surreal adventure game Strangeland, developer Wormwood Studios are back at it again with a new Kickstarter for Hibernaculum, a Survival Horror RPG with an art style that draws from the biomechanical leanings of H.R. Giger, though not as outright as Scorn. As you might expect, the campaign has already been a success, drawing more than $47,000 US with 23 days left to go.

Three recent theatrical films infused the VOD market this week, but each took different routes for very different results. Paramount’s “Scream” performed best with a surprising strategy: Debuting at $4.99 after about 45 days in theaters, the franchise reboot skipped a higher-price initial offering. It also comes before the likely imminent streaming release via Paramount+. The film took two of the #1 slots this week.

Vudu, where “Scream” is #1 for the week, ranks by revenue spent. That means it had more than four times as many transactions as #2, “Sing 2” (Universal), which costs $19.99 (lowered this week from $24.99). That’s a strong showing.

Metal and horror have always made for quite a nice combination. It's like peanut butter and jelly. It just works. So it might not be too surprising to hear that Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor is, indeed, a horror movie fan. So much so that he's written a script for a horror movie that he's trying to get financed as we speak.

Corey Taylor has been very busy as of late, with Slipknot's latest album We Are Not Your Kind coming out this year, with a massive tour to follow. He's also the lead singer of Stone Sour and has a rotating number of solo projects he's working on as well. During a recent interview, when asked about what the future holds, Taylor revealed that he's penned a horror movie script. Here's what he had to say about it.

Keane stopped by The Late Late Show to perform new track “The Way I Feel,” a song off their upcoming fifth album Cause and Effect. The upbeat but emotive tune is the first listen from the album and recently got a stylish music video directed by Kevin Godley. When The Matrix came out 20 years ago, the internet was still in its infancy, confined by the limits of dial-up modems, Netscape browsers and the startup discs that EarthLink and AOL tucked in mailboxes across the country. If you wanted to use the internet, you usually had to sacrifice your phone line, and those with constant busy signals were regarded as hopeless shut-ins, like a flannel-swathed Sandra Bullock ordering a pie from Pizza-dot-net. To the extent that films were thinking about the possibilities of online life, they were usually defined by suspicion and terror, such as the Vr corporate sabotage of Disclosure or sick allure of a chatroom sadist in Dee Snider’s StrangeLand. The landscape was changing, but all they could think to do was freak out and disconnect.

It's been nearly 20 years since Twisted Sister front man Dee Snider made his acting and writing debut in 1998's Strangeland, which would go on to become a horror cult classic. In the years that followed, there has often been talk of a sequel, Strangeland 2, but it has never gotten off the ground. During a new interview, Dee Snider reveals that he still wants to make this follow-up, but he took the past year off to focus on his new album. Here's what he had to say below.

Emaji Entertainment is stepping into the world of werewolves with a reboot of Joe Dante's The Howling and embarking into the realm of the wickedly weird with a reimagining of 1998's StrangeLand, which starred Dee Snider (who also penned the screenplay) as Captain Howdy. The StrangeLand reboot is tentatively titled StrangeLand: Disciple, and Snider looks to be involved with the project.

The annual Texas Frightmare Weekend brings thousands of fans from all over the world to the Hyatt Regency Hotel on the grounds of the Dfw Airport. Each one is looking for their opportunity to meet the several dozen horror celebrities in attendance.

Guests this year are a mix of film, television, and music talents. Movie celebrities include The Walking Dead's Scott Wilson and Chandler Riggs. Thomas Dekker from Terminator: The Sara Connor Chronicles will also be in attendance. John Kassir, the voice of the Cryptkeeper from Tales from the Crypt, will be signing autographs and greeting eventgoers as well.

One of the most beloved art/horror fests on the West Coast is Monsterpalooza, which celebrates the "Art of Monsters." The fest will hit Burbank once again on March 28-30. Save the date!

Image Entertainment will be bring the Holliston TV series to Blu-ray and DVD this October, according to an early announcement to retailers. TV Shows On DVD reports that the Blu-ray and DVD release date is set for October 9th. Specific bonus features have not been listed, but we have your first look at the cover artwork below. We recently had the wonderful opportunity to speak with legendary Twisted Sister frontman, Celebrity Apprentice contestant, Horror writer, fan and actor Dee Snider.

Dee was kind enough to take a few minutes out of his busy schedule to answer some questions about his upcoming role as Lance Rocket in the upcoming original horror comedy from Adam Green and Joe Lynch Holliston (among other things) which premieres at 10:30 pm Et on FEARnet (April 3rd).

Legendary guitarist Ronnie Montrose died this past Saturday, March 3rd, at age 64 of prostate cancer. Our condolences to Ronnie's friends and family.

Over the last 15 years the versatile Amy Smart has tackled a multitude of genres on both the big screen and TV including comedy, action, sci-fi, teen stories, and horror films like Strangeland, Mirrors and Takashi Shimizu's upcoming supernatural spookfest set on a plane - 7500.

Smart is currently celebrating the March 6th release of another recent horror project- the dramatic thriller Columbus Circle- in which she plays Lillian Hart, a privileged but battered wife who reaches out to socialite recluse Elizabeth Clayton (Selma Blair) for help when her husband's (Jason Lee) abuse goes too far.

Giovanni Ribisi, Kevin Pollak, Beau Bridges and Jason Antoon round out the Columbus Circle ensemble.

We're all excited for Adam Green and Joe Lynch's upcoming sitcom "Holliston", and as an East Coaster, I'm doubly excited to see a little favoritism when it comes to having the opportunity to check out the first two episodes early.

That's right, Boston folk, head on over to Emerson College on Tuesday night, March 13th at 7:00 Pm for an opportunity to see "Holliston" before it airs. Best of all? Series creator and star Adam Green will be joined by co-stars Joe Lynch, Corri English, and Laura Ortiz as they present not just one, but two episodes of the upcoming sitcom.
