Lipstick Camera

This movie won't win any academy awards, however, if you're into twisted movies or movies that just tweak you a little bit, then this is one to say you've watched. Mainstream folks won't like it, the film critics will destroy it, but it's a bit of humor that's worth sitting through. Also loved Corey Feldman's character in the movie...he's kinda like a "mad scientist" video geek...which Feldman puts his whole self into. It's not a movie for everyone, but if you want a bit of twist for the night, then this one gives it.

The behavior of the characters in "Lipstick Camera" is so positively Martian that it makes the characters of R.L. Stein (author of teen horror books) seem as fleshed-out as those of Jane Austin.

The protagonist is a self-absorbed young woman obsessed with a videographer. She pesters him and annoys him and does stupid things that get him threatened and beaten up, which of course leads him to fall in lust with her and bang her tenderly in the glow of a video fireplace.

Throw in a Commie war criminal, a blackmailing hooker, and a mooning video-geek who may or not have been making snuff films, and you have the most unlikable cast of characters since John Updike wrote the "Rabbit" series.

For all its flaws, "Lipstick Camera" is enjoyable as an example of something so bad you marvel that it was ever produced. It would make a good choice for a "Mystery Science Theatre 3000" type party.

Story about some incredibly annoying, yet pretty cute, wannabe photographer who is either too stupid to get that she's being a pain in the ass, or is just a real go-getter. It's really just a mix of the two. Well, this dimwit character gets tangled up in some dumb thriller antics involving hidden cameras and shady people. Sound lame? It is.

With Corey Feldman being the big name actor in the group you should know exactly what you're getting into. Though, I did have my hopes up for some nice and steamy sex scenes due to it having erotic thriller plastered on the side of the box. But the two sex scenes that did go down, were rather mediocre, with only a glimpse of any nudity. That being half a nip.

The story itself just rolls along at a snail's pace and you're wondering when the next eye-opening thing will go down. Nothing truly exciting besides the halfass sex scenes happens until the final act, where a slightly predictable twist goes down and a laughably stupid death scene.

Some other comment said it's twisted? Gimme a break. This is crap that probably aired on showtime back when it was released. Nothing twisted, just below average thriller type stuff that will keep you wondering how much time is left. Crap writing, cheesy acting, Sandahl Bergman sporting a thong and Corey wearing ridiculous 80s garb are the highlights.

Ele Keats plays a young and ambitious camera operator named "Omy Clark" who wants to make a name for herself in film making. Her best friend, "Joule Iverson" (Corey Feldman) loves her dearly but cannot get her to return his romantic affections. One of the reasons for this involves a world-famous cameraman named "Flynn Dailey" (Brian Wimmer) who Omy idolizes. Wanting to work for him she convinces Joule to make a demo tape and then proceeds to his studio to try to get him to look at it. While there, an attractive woman named "Lily Miller" (Sandahl Bergman) also comes around and tries to hire Flynn to make a porno tape of her and her husband "Raymond Miller" (Terry O'Quinn). Even though Flynn reluctantly agrees, Omy sees this as an opportunity to impress him and secretly plants a lipstick camera above the bed. What neither Omy nor Flynn realize is that Raymond doesn't know anything about the tape. Neither do Omy or Flynn realize that Raymond is an ex-Stassi assassin who is trying to keep a very low profile. At any rate, rather than divulge the rest of the story, I will just say that there are a few twists and turns that turn out to be quite interesting. While I enjoyed the surprising revelation at the end, I didn't necessarily like the way the film actually ended. Suffice to say, cold-blooded killers don't usually give a full confession to the only eyewitness to their crime. Another thing I didn't care for were the two sex scenes which I considered to be both dull and lifeless. In more ways than one. Be that as it may, I thought Brian Wimmer, Terry O'Quinn and Corey Feldman all gave decent performances. And while Ele Keats was definitely cute and used her beautiful smile for all it was worth, her acting was only average. Additionally, Sandahl Bergman's potential was essentially wasted due to her very limited role. In short, I liked this movie. But it could have been much better if the ending hadn't been so completely preposterous.
